HEY ALL,

I have watched misery thousands of times, it is my all time favorite movie, but i cant help but wonder..would you all have done anything different if you were in paul sheldon's shoes?? This film amazes me, how much he has to bare just to keep calm (most of the time) so i wonder what would you do if you was in that situation?? would you go along with annie?? let me know

Yeah, I woulda stayed home one more day and not risked driving in the blizzard. Wouldn't have made for a very interesting book, though.

I can safely say I would pretty much go along with anything she wanted.
We all saw how things turned out when she was in a cockadoodie temper.
I would not want to be on the receiving end of that...I quite like using my legs thankya very muchly! :eek2:

Well, it has been a LONG time since I read and watched Misery.

I think if I were in his shoes I would have surely evoked a stronger pseudo-Stockholm syndrome where I would absolutely show my gratitude to her by pretending to fall in love with her. Maybe even..."do the deed"... with her to get the upper hand the WHAM make her swallow her own teeth....
WHAT?? You asked.

I would have gone along with Annie's wishes too because like Ally88 I love my legs too. I would not have done the sneaking around while Annie was away. I would have waited until I was really strong enough to send that raving lunatic to hell. Now I know I 'd make a very boring character.

I would have complied but I would have also been thinking fervently on how to escape the hell hole.

Slowly build on Annie's theories that she was being watched. Tell her I had a plot point that she would like that I didn't want anyone secretly listening to hear, come close--I have to whisper--meanwhile building my back and arms with bodyweight exercises. I have a big secret, Annie, but I'm sure that you will find it in your heart to forgive me, because I did it all for you. I have extra pages that all those listeners know nothing about. I want you to be my personal editor. Tell me if this idea works... The fifth time (or whenever I had her hooked) I'd give her perspective an immediate 180-degree rotation.

With a crunch.

I would have complied while all along plotting how to kill that heifer!!! I don't know what good that would have done becuz she was removing parts of him for no logical reason!!! She was cockadoodie crazy!!!

I would have repeatedly wet the bed. No there's no strategy there, I'm just tellin' ya what I would've done...

I think I would have done anything to please her, but only until I was healed enough to run away while she was out of town.

This thread makes me realize how well written the screenplay, and the novel, are. What do you do? Really..? Stockholm? Lose your mind, and other parts? Fight back, somehow (congratulations!)? How?

Misery reminds me of Gerald's Game and A Very Tight Place; all sK, come to think of it.

Remember when Annie gave Paul a piece of paper to think of ideas for Misery's Return, I would think of ideas on how to escape and kill the crazy woman!

Yes, but then you'd have to sit in it. I doubt she'd clean up after a cockadoodie bedwetting brat.

I would have wrote the book she wanted but worked in very, very subtle jabs at her that she wouldn't notice. (hopefully)

I don't think I'd have much choice but to go along with Annie. But in every possible opportunity I'd be looking for escape routes. I'd like to think I could manage what Paul did at the end where he burned the 'manuscript' in front of Annie.

i would have waited another day to go our for the drive...but if i did and was at her house already, i would do everything to please her. but once i was strong enough i would make a run for it...but that would make a boring book, now wouldn't it?

I doubt I would have come up with the idea of drugging her with my pills, but I would have just waited until I had regained enough strength to whack her when she came close enough. :biggrin2:

I'd probably not keep calm as well as Paul...

Although I do love when, after she breaks his legs, he flips her off

I would have grabbed something... while looking for his pills i would have grabbed a knife or something sharp, anything really. The next time she came round I would whack her right in the skull. I mean you have enough pills for the rest of your life and the rest of the house. Until you have enough strength to find help. I would have killed her long before then, that crazy loon! She's out of her mind! You can't compromise with a crazy person, there is no knowing what they have in mind. You would have to demolish her!

I think I would have planned better with the pills. He likely had enough drug after collecting for (what seemed like) weeks, to kill her 3 or 4 times over. She would have no tolerance to the medication, making even his regular dose, a wonderful sedative for her. I have always thought that I would have divided the medication I had horded, just in case something like the spill happened.
I imagine the first spill happening, and the dinner continuing on beautifully. At some point, Anne would have to leave the room again for dessert. Maybe I would suggest coffee? Or more wine? Then distract her enough to make the second attempt at a poisoning.

*shrugs* Likely wouldn't have worked anyway! :)
