In fact it was. And as for you, I got hooked right away and it awakened my interest for horror literature. I was about 12 or 13 years old back then.

Pet Sematary was my first SK book and that was 5 years ago. I have been reading his books since then.

It was my second. My first was Roadworks (Richard Bachmann). But I've owned Pet Semetary first and Carrie.

IT was my first. I was 12. Pennywise, the house on Neibolt St., and Mr. Keene (I think his name was anyway,) scared the s**t out of me.

Carrie was my first read. Pet Semetary was an emotional read for me.

Pet Sematary was indeed my first. Must've been third or fourth grade. Me mum (a former King Fan addict) recommended it to me. That did it. Been hooked ever since. I remember crying when little Gage bit the pavement. Until then I didn't believe it was possible for a book to move me like that.
Only three writers have ever made me cry: King, Earl Thompson, and Alan Moore...

It was actually my third...My first was Cujo and second was The Shining...The legend of Stephen King being too afraid to finish Pet Sematary scared me away from it

Pet sematary actually was my first SK book. Now that I think of it, it's been 18 years since I read it. Time for a reread. That book led me to Cujo and The Shining and I have been hooked since.

First SK book was Night Shift.
Pet Sematary was my first SK novel. Scared me a lot as a youngster, especially since I lived in Augusta, Maine at the time, complete with a trail in my backyard leading across a field and into the woods past the foundation of a long ago burnt down building. No pet sematary at the end (thank god) but still very creepy for my 10 year old self. Sematary still remains my favorite SK novel.
I would say since that time I have probably read about a third of King's works, and I consider this the scariest overall. I am sure many fans would disagree. Beyond the nostalgic value, I attribute it to the multi-layered scare approach King takes in this book. The "zombies" are the main focus but there are other "sideshow horrors" that are just as frightening. Pascow, Zelda, the Windigo, the psychic "power" of the burial ground itself.

My first SK novel was Cujo and my second SK novel was Pet Semetery. To this day, it is one of the scariest books I've ever read. I've been reading Stephen King novels ever since (I was 12 years old when I read both and I'm 29 now).

Pet Sematary was my third SK novel, IT was first, then Four Past Midnight. Needless to say, I was hooked after reading those three.

I found Pet Sematary in the library, my first week of junior high. Pet Sematary led to Christine, lead to Carrie, led me here. Twenty years later and although Sai King and I haven't always seen eye to eye (really, I can't believe you pulled Rage), he has never done me wrong yet. Thankee Big Big.

I've been actually trying lately to remember what the first King book was for me and I really think it was either this or Eyes of the Dragon. It would have been around fifth grade. I still remember how much of a rush it was to read the books. This was the late 80's when he was really starting to take off in popularity. I remember getting a thrill from reading material that was more risque and adult in content - doing something you aren't supposed to be doing. I've been a fan ever since.

I picked up Dolores Claiborne off a bookshelf, had never even read a full book in my life up to that point, I was eighteen, have never stopped reading since. King's books actually changed my life.

Not my first, but still my favorite....also the scariest story I've ever read.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did, Speedygirl81....please be sure to tell us what you think.

My first was 'Salem's Lot and I had never read anything like it before then. I have read all his books except for Buick 8 and the Dark Tower books. I am waiting until I retire to read them.. I want time to read them in one fell swoop. (I don't exactly know what a fell swoop is, but it sounds exciting)

Well, it was the King novel that hooked me in, in 1997. I was blown away by the writing...especially Lou's thought processes...very realistic. And it hit a core...when Gage dies. The part where they went kite flying...it just KILLED me.
