Do you think Stephen King should actually write the books Misery's Child, Misery's return and the other Misery books

Not for me personally, I never really got into the Misery book itself, I think that was the point of it too, it would be interesting and I would end up reading it for sure as I do adore the book and everything that goes along with it, but i'd rather Sai King concentrate on other things!

Only if it were written tongue in cheek. Never been a fan of the erstwhile lurid Romance novel-don't get me wrong, I enjoy a heaving bosom as much as the next feller-but don't need a squeaky bedspring romp every other page-give me story...:biggrin2:

No, I'd rather he concentrated on something else. However, it would be severely cool if he had an open contest for an unpublished author to write the first Misery book! He could hand-pick a panel of judges and make the final decision as to which book would win. Just think how many new ideas (and readers) this could bring to the romance novel industry! Ms. Mod, can you pass this idea on to the big guy?

The Misery books sounded to me like not much more than tacky romances. I'd prefer if Mr. King would right me another fine horror tale, thank you very much. :biggrin2:

I agree, the Misery book sections in Misery were the parts of that novel that I was kind of bummed out on reading..

Hi,
Hmmm, have you read Wizard and Glass?
Or Lisey's Story?

I too am voting no. I'd probably read them if he wrote them but likely wouldn't enjoy them. While SK has proven himself a worthy author in other genres besides horror, I'm not sure he should try to pull off the bodice-ripping, pulsing manhood vulgarity of the romance novel. Those books are just funny, IMO and would somehow cheapen our beloved SK if he were to try it.

Hi
The short answer is 'yes', but you should read Wizard and Glass in sequence as the 4th book in the Dark Tower cycle, which you most definitely should read ASAP - try to get you hands on The Gunslinger (it's not exactly a western) and Drawing of the Three as soon as you can.
Should you read Lisey's Story is a bit more complicated; I love it personally but I think that you probably have to have experienced a longtem relationship to fully enjoy it, but it's a marvellous book IMO.

No. It's not that King couldn't write romance (he can and he's pretty good at it) but, from the excerpts found in Misery, it seems that those novels were just kitschy, and written by King to be exactly that. I think he wouldn't degrade himself writing that stuff when he can do whatever he is interested in.

SK shouldn't write them, but maybe someone else should write one, with SK's permission of course. I remember someone wrote a Kilgore Trout novel (a recurring science fiction writer character in Kurt Vonnegut novels) called "Venus On The Half-Shell". The Kilgore Trout novel even had a fake photo of the author on the back.

I think he should try to write the porno one that Paul Sheldon writes. Misery's weekend, was it called? Misery's holiday? Something?

I think if he did write them, I would still end up reading them (or at least the first) to see what he would do with them. I have a sneaking suspicion that he would be able to make them readable and enjoyable for those who aren't into the romance-type novels (like Lisey's Story, someone had mentioned, not that it's a bodice-ripper or anything). I prefer the more standard King ideas. I just finished Misery and, while I thought it was a great story as a whole, I found myself losing interest when it got into the 'Misery's Return' portions.
Plus, Paul Sheldon hating Misery as much as he did isn't a very good selling point, in my opinion.

I think it is not his genre. Although... It would be curious to read SK's love story.

I voted no as I find hes good at writing the books he chooses and we enjoy them. So time would interfere with my pleasure reading. LOL

I voted no. Misery is one of my favorite SK books, but I have to say I tend to skip over the Misery Chastain excerpts when I read the book. Does not hold my interest and I always am too focused on what crazy thing Annie Wilkes will do next...

One good thing about Mr. King's success - he can now do whatever he wants to. But I can't see him writing Harlequin romances.
