Don't know how many of Uncle Stevie's books you've read, but his books don't always have happy endings or expected endings. The books write themselves and it ends how it ends! BTW, if you didn't like this, DO NOT read the DT books. You'll scream!

Even though most of SK's books are nice and long, by the time the end comes I usually don't want it to end. I thought the end of The Cell was appropriate; very SK like. :)

hi maurice. give it another shot after a time. i did. let it age a bit and go back to it. or not. either way, the ending is the same, but you might ask yourself if you do give it another go, why.

I think a reader often feels the need for a definite resolution and when he doesnt get one, feels cheated. I often fall victim to this feeling initially when I come across an ending like this, but upon reflection will usually be cool with it because in a way this particular plot device gives the reader a certain "control" over the story because he can draw his own conclusions

I liked the ending of Cell it made me think! Omg is everything going to be ok, will everyone turn back to normal eventually or will they stay sort of changed and in that strange state of mind. But tbh i loved the whole book!

I wouldn't mind a sequel to Cell myself but choose to think that when the mist clears everything & everyone will return to normal. :) On a sidenote I found a signed copy of Cell in a Bridgton Maine bookstore recently. I was thrilled.,but gave it to a friend I was with who has no signed books. But NOW he does! :)

I just finished this book and loved every minute of it, even the ending. That's not saying I didn't want a more definitive ending but, then again, I didn't want it to end at all.

I don't understand why a lot of people have such a problem with Cell. I loved it, couldn't put down!

I like SK books, but this ending was very unsatisfactory! I have been reading SK books foe 25 years and this was the worst ending ever! I would love to read an alternative ending.

Nooo The ending is great --gets u thinker IMO..... I am sounding like an old record --- this is what makes him gr8! all other books media (for the most part) I know the ending we got the holywood standard endings.. King who knows WTF can happen!

Point here is for me it got me thinking... that is a good thing!

PS- it ok u do not like it but i think the fact you are so annoyed points out to his ability to reach readers... just wish you were happy as opposed to disappointed...

LOL I had the same issue with the ending, it drove me up the wall ;) I thought it was a fantastic concept but, to my mind, a very weak finale. I'll always love good old Mr King, but the day I read Cell I fell out with him for awhile, hehe. It's all good though, anything that can provoke any kind of strong reaction is always fun :)

Personally I liked the ending, but for all who missed what Sai King had to say:

Stephen King had a message about the ending of cell on the main page of this site.

12:41pm March 24th, 2006:
Regarding Cell...
CELL SPOILER: "Based on the information given in the final third of Cell—I’m thinking about the reversion back toward the norm of the later phone crazies—it seems pretty obvious to me that things turned out well for Clay’s son, Johnny. I don’t need to tell you this, do I?”

I cant wait till they put this out as a movie. I have heard of a couple of places that are talking about doing it. I would love to see kubrick do it like he did shining.

The ending to The Dark Tower books was great! there couldn't have been any other ending!

Unfortunately, Kubrick died in 1999. I think that there are people out there that could adapt this and do it justice.

I liked the book overall, but the ending took a while for me to accept.

That reminds me...I hated the movie ending of the Mist...it made me cry.

I think the ending to the movie was far better than the novella. Plus, I think if the movie had the same ending as the novella it wouldn't have been as well received. Some writing just doesn't play out well on screen.

I thought the ending to Cell was perfect. Can't people let their minds take them places or must the author hold your hand everywhere? The unresolved endings make you think the most.

Just finished this last week. I was actually really surprised that there was no ending (to me) lol. I kept turning through the preview of another book that was there, hoping to find the rest of the story, lmao. I think this really could use a Cell 2 :)

If there were ever to be a Cell 2 he'd have to use a 'Droid...because that mechanical voice immediately puts me in mind of something George Romero would use, and speaking of ole Gorgeous George-how 'bout him helming a film version of Cell?...

This was a fantastic book i also couldn't put it down but felt deflated by the end like awaiting a fantastic end and there was a pin prick of a hole from the begginging to the end it was flat but think it would make a good film .

Wow - it would be boring if we all had the same opinions - there are a couple of recent books I didnt like the end of (Liseys Story for one)............but I thought the Cell ended perfectly. I would have been disappointed if the ends had all tied up neatly.........

I think what makes stephen king an awesome author is because he gives you bad scenarios, creativity, and something new! Not everything has a happy ending, especially in SK's books!

True that, and Cell was kind of left a little open ended as well... at least imo

Loved CELL and the ending, I'm really glad that I got to read it.

In fact I think I'll read it again....NOW!

Theres something about leaving the ending to the readers imagination though, if he'd just said what happened then we might have been more dissapointed as it might not have been the ending we'd hoped for. Imagine if Clay had called 911, and everything had been fine, and his son was normal again. I for one would have been dissapointed, but would have equally been dissapointed with calling 911 doing nothing. It'd be a lose lose situation, so I'm in favour of the open ending :)

the curious thing about cell...is the various reactions to it...that, and along with that, the concept that something is left up to the reader's imagination...

okay, keep that in mind...then, there's these other posts, probably NONE of them related to cell, that say, gee don't try to read so much into the story, mahn! like, smoke the holy weed, ganja and don't fork w/the infinite! jeepers! holy crow! why can't some people just read the story for the story and not try to do more!!!! guess i need to take that nap soon.

so...which is it? can we use our imagination, read MORE into it? or...considering cell...heh heh...do we take it medium, w/thousand island dressing, baked potato...no steak sauce?....?

I thought the ending to The Mist movie was exceptionally good. I didn't see it coming and sat in my seat stunned at the power of it. Whereas I found the ending of the Shawshank movie just a little too glossy for me, this I thought was perfect.

I've always been left with an unsettling suspicious feeling whenever I come across a book with a 'happy-ever-after-ending' to it. It always seems just a bit too pat. You know? Too contrived, perhaps. Like the author sold out . So this ending seemed to fit with my version of what would be like at the end.SK says he's as surprised as everyone else when it ends. I believe to a point he really is.

I know exactly how you feel. When I first read Cell, I was a tad bit disappointed at the end. But, after re-reading it a few times, it fits the story quite well. And I suppose it leaves it up to you what happens, could've been bad or good!

I loved the book. Great storyline and the writing is outstanding. The only bad thing is that it had to end. I did not want it to end! But I thought the ending was weird but in a good way!

I thought the end was very emotional. Having kids of my own, stories like this hit me pretty hard, and SK has an awful lot of them. Loved it.

Sometimes endings are like that. You just don't know. Firestarter had that sort of ending that left you saying "what happens next?". That's ok.

I'm currently reading "Cell" now and near the end, so far I love the book . I've read enough SK. books to know what to expect, as far as a King ending .

I thought it was a great story and a good place to end it. The "problem" with the ending is, it doesn't end. Of course it doesn't. Those people who are still alive at the end go on living in Storyland (or whatever name you give it), and you just don't know what happens next. You have to use your imagination and imagine what happens next. I like that.

Cell was a fantastic novel! It set a new standard for zombie related apocalypse scenarios. A movie, or graphic novel would be pretty awesome.

I'm not sure I would to be honest. I love how it ends (albeit a PAIN) but I'd rather make my own conclusions. And I think that's the way SK wanted it.
