So 2012 is listed as one of Mr. King's best movies of the year. I don't have a problem with this pick per se; I haven't seen the film so i can't judge on that. But about 2-3 months ago, he wrote another article for EW where he said (and I'm paraphrasing) that it looked terrible, it played on the concerns of a scared public, it made light of millions of people dying etc. and I'm pretty sure he also said that he would not see it for those reasons. So I'm curious- did he see the movie after all and just change his mind? Or did someone from a parent company hand him the list and he just had to write a blurb about each one? (Honestly, he wrote so passionately about NOT seeing it and the bit he wrote for the new article was pretty eh.) Whatever the answer, I promise I'm not judging, I'm just dying to know! So Mr. King, why the change of heart? Thanks!

Where the hell is the Inglourious Basterds? What did Stephen King have against that movie, to put it somwhere below 2012?

Any list that gives District 9 recognition as a great movie is a good list to me. If you haven't seen it yet, do yourself a favor and watch it.

Inglorious Basterds was a good film and all, but Brad Pitt did poorly. And it wasn't all that innovative. I'm not saying that 2012 was all that original either, but at least it has the visual glam and blam - that will blow you away, like it or not. But, who knows. Maybe he didn't see Inglorious Basterds? Maybe he forgot about it. Or maybe he found it a tad boring.

I am more suprised that The Last House on the Left is his second! Most people I have discussed this movie with, calls it just another stupid horror remake. But it's not. Really. It was a terrifying film and a lovely reminder to why horror is my favourite genre. Haunted my soul for weeks.

Really interesting choises....

I haven't seen any of them there motion flicker stories.

...Or did someone from a parent company hand him the list and he just had to write a blurb about each one?

Seriously, how likely is that? No one has enough leverage on King (well, maybe Tabitha) to force him into an opinion.

Of the ten movies listed I have only seen two:

The Hurt Locker which was absolutely excellent and The Last House on the Left which was mediocre. I haven't seen the original, so I can't compare, but I thought the movie, though well made and acted, was exploitative and had a terrible and unnecessary ending.

I've only seen the last house on the left. That wasn't so good. Looking forward to see 2012.

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, the EW column you're thinking of that was so adamantly against 2012 was written by the other columnist Mark Harris. He stated that, after having only seen the trailer, he didn't want to watch the movie, calling it "disaster porn".

Inglorious Bastards was also a remake. Our video store has the original version. District 9 was indeed a good flick (do people still use that term...flick?). I rather enjoyed the way it was presented as a documentary.
The Taking of Pelham 123 was a pleasant surprise not having seen any previews or trailers.
Haven't seen Hurt Locker yet.

I have to disagree (respectably..I guess :P) with whomever said Brad Pitt wasn't good in Inglorious Basterds! His performance was phenomenal, and contributed so much to that movie.

I still haven't seen The Road yet, it wasn't in theaters long enough (or at all) in the cities I was in during it's theatrical release.

Mr. King could have better taste in movies. :upside: But to each his own. Lol.

Each to their own and all that, but i thought 2012 was arguably the worst film of the year.
Tired, cheesy and cliched doesn't begin to describe it.
I suppose you can't expect much more from the makers of independence day.
District 9 on the other hand.....fresh,innovative...the polar opposite of most Hollywood blockbusters.
As i read somewhere...the more money you throw at a film, the worse it usually becomes.

I liked 2012. I just kept thinking, "what if it really happened? what if it were me?" kinda freaky. Realized I'd prolly be one of the first to die  I also seen Last House on the Left. Rented it though, so it was the director's cut. The rape scene made me cringe so bad, made me almost sick, stayed in my mind for a few weeks, but I thought the ending was a little dumb.

I really enjoyed Inglorius Basterds and Slumdog Millionaire (or was that 2008?)

don't get me wrong, some of the scenarios portrayed in the 2012 were 'change yer pants' scary,
just not my type of film.In defense of Steves' list,2009 wasn't the strongest year for movies.
Some thoroughly decent films(inglorious, star trek, hurt locker, district 9),but no real classics.
Here's to a better 2010.
ps I watched and enjoyed(if that's the right word) the original Last House On The Left.
Not seen the remake.Hearing about the(apparently) overly long rape scene put me off.

LOL,I too was about to put Slumdog Millionaire, but then remembered the release date was 2008.
Omitted The Changeling for the same reason.Truth is stranger than fiction indeed

Inglorious Bastards was also a remake.

Tarantino's "Inglorious Basterds" is not a remake.

Very surprised King didn't have it high on his list. He has some terrible flicks on there, including "2012" and "Law Abiding Citizen."

2012 and Law Abiding Citizen were great. I absolutely hated District 9
