In the book, Audrey Wyler has a secret place she escapes to, a place in her past, frozen in time. Her belief and memory of it are enough to make it real for her, and in some way Seth's powers make it real for both of them.

I wonder if we really can create a place like this, out of our own conviction, and run to it. I wonder if it's not my natural-born skepticism that stops me from having a place like this.

you can do that, michal, if you try. mine varies depending on the season. last night, in the woods, sitting in a tree and it was quiet, prolly cause it was monday and the snowmobilers are back to work or something. everything was going fine until i imagined one of those scenes from looney tunes, you know, where the characters are taking these big tippy toe steps and ducking behind thin trees, characters bigger than the trees, but they manage to duck behind all the same. and there are a lot of trees in the woods. ;)

I have a very strange place I go to sometimes. When I was stationed in California for training the early mornings were always so quiet and still that I use it as my place. Completely desserted and quiet...

Oddly enough there was a few hundred yards of imported grass they used for what's called The Generals Lawn. We weren't supposed to even stand on it without permission, but in the morning the grass would be cool and wet from the sprinklers...

I always picture myself standing there in the early morning sun with my bare feet in the cool grass and it seems to relax me very well. I always find that weird because my time in California was one of the most stressful times in my life
