Where to begin? Husband works for positronics. They've done some bad things from what I've read.

She tells Roland she's read 4-5 Stephen King books but she doesn't like his writing. Not long after, Roland gives her Insomnia because it feels "tricksy" to him. Feels like she's pulling a "these aren't the books you're looking for?" kind of thing. I think Roland or Susanna would've found something while reading it. dammit

She then refers to herself as Ree.

Coos anyone? There are other worlds than these after all.

Hardly Rhea o' The Coos- and it's Tassenbaum - lol Ree is the diminutive of Irene, and do you think that once she got back to said husband he would continue to work for North Central Positronics. If he did at all, all I remember is a magnet on her fridge that had the name on it, and that her husband and his friends invented the internet.

I think Insomnia was a trick and would have sidetracked Roland and Suz, they would have known about Patrick too soon. It also might have given them a false sense of security about The Crimson King- and how easy he might be to defeat.

Oops, I did misspell her last name.
I did a German to English translation from some translation site. Tassen means cup or something to carry water. Baum as a noun means a tree or as a verb to revolt against. Not much to go on there.

Hardly Rhea, why so? She died somewhere/time in the past. Why couldn't she have respawned as Tassenbaum? Ree is a diminutive of Irene, duh. I pointed it out because Ree looks and sounds a lot like Rhea.

I don't know if David worked for positronics or not but there was that magnet on the fridge. If she's The Coos then I think he will continue to work with positronics, if he actually does now anyway. If she's not, then I don't recall if Roland mentions the company to her or not. So she wouldn't know that her husband works for the bad guys in the first place.

Yes, Roland thought, for whatever reason, that Insomnia was tricksy, after talking to this lady. It was after she told Roland that King isn't a very good writer. Then Roland calls her on it and says if he's not very good then why did you read more than one of his books? The people at Tet Corp and The Calvins thought it was important enough to check out.

I think it would've been great for them if they knew more about Patrick Danville. I forget the exact quote, it was in book 3 or 4. You can find out the most about a people by hearing their stories, or something along those lines. Plus there's the unfulfilled prophecy: Patrick saves two men just before he dies and that one of the men must live to maintain cosmic balance.

I agree, it's very improbable that Tassenbaum is Rhea. But Roland definitely does not have all the answers and the fact that he so easily dismissed looking at Insomnia?
Then there’s the point that Roland says that they’re beyond Ka. I forget if that’s after they save King or after they escape Castle Discordia. Then there’s the Dandelo incident.
Roland doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing. He needs all the help he can get. That’s why I think it’s foolish of him to throw out Insomnia.

Roland thought of the book as just another mind trap - a distraction - these books are filled with so many unexplored stories and I think the story of Irene would have been a great one to read!!!

Went through the series again and got stuck on ol' Irene again. lol
Maiden name, Irene Cantora. What's a can tora? I know what a can toi is, a can ta, a can tak. Tora in Japanese means tiger. In at least one of the worlds The Tower is an Immortal Tiger.
Speaking of Japanese, and Insomnia. Tora, tora, tora! is the code for the Pearl Harbor attack. Is Irene one of the people who aren't controlled by either the random or the purpose, like Ed Deepneau? Kamikaze!

When she's in the lobby and hearing the song of the rose she can hear at least two parts of her name used in the song. Must be can and tora. Never get a solid definition unfortunately.

Also, I always thought it was funny hearing Roland use the word tricksy. Golem Deschain. lol

Rhea of the Coos died? I don't recall that happening.

I think Irene didn't seem witch-like as Rhea did, she seemed to have a better personality. Even though Ka brought her into Roland's path, I think, she is just another side character, who played her part and that was that.

I can't say much about Insomnia as I haven't read it yet, although I plan on reading it next. :wink2:

Bottom of page 692, of 699 on the paperback I've got.

"I saw her again, you know." Roland explained no further, but a stony gleam arose in his eyes. Eddie had seen it before, and knew it meant killing.

I guess he doesn't come out and say it but.
