Just finished reading this story today, and it was good. I know that there is a Desperation movie, but why isn't there a Regulator movie too? Sy-Fi Channel should do one if nothing else.:dunno:
I still need to read Desperation and watch the movie. But I willing to bet that a Regulator movie would do fantastic! :smile2:

I think that this is one of the novels that would be nicely transferred into a movie. I think, however, that the Hollywood director would be tempted to change the ending, to make it more "popular" and that will make me very sad indeed.

They didn't with The Mist...
It would have been nice if they'd done it back to back with Desperation with the same actors playing the same people.

I would love to see a 'Regulators' movie ! I believe it could be a classic if it faithfully conveys the energy and feeling of the book. In fact, I would like to write the screenplay if there isn't one already in the can.
If there is as yet no screenplay, would Mr. King be open to considering mine when it's completed ? I'm a complete unknown ( well, except for the "coveted" Ella V. Schwing award for best Freshman essay University of New Orleans 1977 ) but a huge fan of the book and a fair writer at that. I'm curious if the great man would have an interest in seeing his story brought to the screen ? Any way someone from this site could run this by him ?
All my love and respect, sir.

There aren't any options for a Regulators movie in the works that I'm aware of. Sorry, but he couldn't take a look at a screenplay you wrote unless it was commissioned as part of the production as it could cause legal/plagiarism problems for him.

I think "The Regulators" really would be a good idea for a movie. It was my favorite between Desperation and The Regulators.

No problem. So, would that mean I would need to have my script accepted by a production company first before Mr. King says yea or nay ?
Thank you.

The process doesn't work that way with Steve's work. First, the rights are sold to adapt the movie, then a production company is set up by whomever buys the rights, and they then hire a screenwriter to adapt it unless Steve has a personal interest in writing it himself. If you were the screenwriter for the production company, then Steve would be able to look it over.

Thank you for the reply. So, any advice as far as how to pursue this project, assuming
I have any options ? Of course I would love to see my work writ large on the screen,
but aside from that I'm enjoying writing it purely for the creative process, and just to see how the finished product will look.
Thanks again.

You can do it as a writing exercise for yourself but if you want to see it go to the next level, you'll need to contact someone in a position to put forward an offer to buy the film rights and with the experience and/or financial backing to set up a production.

The idea of a Regulators movie would be ace, it just had that movie feel to it when I was reading it, but it will need to be kept very true to the source and I expect it will need to have a fairly big budget, (Power Wagons :D ) but definitely a doable project if the production company is willing and of course if 'The King' is willing to let it be made into a movie/TV series/made for TV movie etc

I agree, I think a Regulators movie would be pretty damn cool. I'd like to see how they carried the story out, honestly. I LOVED the book, and if there was a movie? I may die of happiness. Tak!
