First of all, I'm a big Stephen King fan and an aspiring novelist myself. I just finished Under the Dome and wrote a little something on it from a writer's perspective at Scribophile.com. I would have gone into more depth, but I didn't want the post to be too long.
Here's the link: http://www.scribophile.com/blog/under-the-dome-a-writers-analysis/
I also kept a small 'journal' of my thoughts as I read through. You can find it on my blog: http://theinkroad.blogspot.com
Let me know what you think/I'd like to start a discussion here off of some of the things I say in my analysis.

hi jckey...justin, was it? read the analysis. yeah, i thought it was nice that junior cared for the children, a moment of grace. but you don't see any like-moment for big jim? or did the bad stuff he...i dunno, cause you not to see any good? or to believe it was all put-on?
he did act "nice" at times...trying to find a moment of grace for him, too. there were many times when he did things that portrayed him as human, after all, more than just a one-dimensional villain...yeah, i know, not a phrase you used, you worded it otherwise...but he hugs andy, he is aware, as parents often are, of junior's doings at school, yet he doesn't "nag" junior about that--one assumes he will get around to that issue, but he lets it slide for the time. there's quite a list of things he did that show he isn't just...whatever the phrase is you used for him...my interpretation of it is "one-dimensional"......:dunno:

Yea, it's Justin. I don't know, I just think that all of his actions led back to complete selfishness. There was never a moment that I believed he ever even cared about anything besides being in control. Even that small part when Junior was dying and it said that he really did have love for Junior, it felt like a lie on the narrator's part. Like something Jim should feel but really didn't.

Let me know what you think. Basically, I praised for everything except for the ending.
