I just wanted to say that i have read all of S.K books, and they helped me thru my husbands deployment to Iraq, during that time I read the above mentioned book and reread a few others, and now working on "the dome", kind of hard to read for me, it talks of Iraq, but still a damn good book so far, on the 800th page or so. Take care all of you fellow readers!

Stephen King is good that way. I didn't start reading for enjoyment until I learned that I enjoyed writing short stories. Somewhere I read something from him that if you can't find six hours a day to either read or write you'd never be a successful writer. It made a lot of sense and I began reading constantly. Many of his stories have helped me through tough times in my life, fiction or not, he always puts things in there that make you think.

He does indeed provide escapism of the first order. Not necessarily to a better world, but one that takes us away from our own cares and woes, or one that helps bring our tyroubles into better and possibly more manageable focus. Also, thank your husband for his service for me.
