Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm about 90% positive that I've read another of King's novels where at some point one or more of the characters happen upon the fallen Derry standpipe with the words "We did it!" spray-painted on the side. I thought it was somewhere in the Dark Tower series but the last time I read through them I don't think it was mentioned. Does anyone know what book I'm thinking of? This is driving me nuts!

I'm pretty sure you're thinking of Dreamcatcher although the passage isn't exactly as you're describing.

The Standpipe also shows up in Insomnia. It might have just been a reference.

The Standpipe is mentioned in "Dreamcatcher" where the spraypaint says (creepy) "Pennywise is alive" or "Pennywise lives" (I read it in danish, so I am not sure what it says in english...)
