I kept waiting for them to try to dig under the dome. Did I miss that part of the book?

It was too far down to be able to dig under it.

A good example of why not to skim :P
cox said they were trying to dig under it, starting at a place already dug quiet deep, but to no avail. they never did get down deep enough to get under it

Thank you! I figured it was mentioned somewhere but it was really bugging me. I kept reading way too late at night and would catch myself skimming. I will read it again soon.

It went down as far as it went up - some 40,000 feet, I believe.

Yeah, it says that at the end when it's lifting out of the ground and into the air, and someone thinks "it seemed to go on forever" or something like that. I think it was Private Aames. I think others exclaim how far it went under the ground too, idk But yeah, I remember them saying it went as far underground as it did above ground because it's like a "capsule" more than a "dome", per se.
