Hey guys has anyone else heard the rumours a possible idea Mr King has for a sequeal to The Shining? I must admit from what I've read on multiple sites I like the ideal but what does everyone else think and would they welcome a sequel?

It's only talk for now and even if he does write the book, it will be several years before that would happen as he has other projects ahead of it.

I hope King won't write a sequel to the Shining, cause it's perfect just the way it is. I just don't think the risk is worth taking. The idea sounds kinda weird, and I don't think it would work for me, but on the other hand, I know that Big Steve could pull it off

Of course, not long after I'd posted my response Steve came into the office and handed me a message he wanted posted asking for feedback about writing Doctor Sleep. You can cast your vote in the Survey Forum (http://www.stephenking.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15754) for either that idea or his Dark Tower idea as his next book.

Ms Mod, you may want to put notice of this poll in the News forum on the main page of the forums. More people may see it there.

Wow that is exciting and unexpected news! Would have a guessed maybe a sequel to Salem's Lot, but never the Shining. I have mixed feeling on sequels. On the one hand, wanting to know what happened. On the other, the tendency to hold the original to such standards that nothing can live up to expectations.

Fantastic news. I can't wait!
Please write it, Mister King.

I hope not too much time has passed to write a sequel to the Shining. I would definately read it if it ever came out. You know what will happen though as soon as the book comes out (if it gets written), it will be turned into a movie. I could picture Wes Craven directing in it.

I'm not gonna go right out and say that I think this book is gonna be great, but I excitedly await confirmation as to whether Doctor Sleep is going to be written. I know that King could probably make it an entertaining story, but I simply cannot picture a grownup Danny Torrance!

A prequel would be interesting too. Maybe talk about the previous employee Grady, or someone else.

I think that making Danny a bit of a gambler is a BRILLIANT idea (if that rumor is true).
Don't forget, the addictive personality is hereditary. Danny would probably be too scared to ever become a drinker, due to the horrific childhood abuse he suffered at hands of his alcoholic father, but addictions can manifest themselves in many forms.
Like gambling.

the shining was the first SK i ever read and one i fell in love with from the very first line 'officious little pr@ck', a line i'll never forget. There are seven dark tower novels and only one shining. Please write the shining sequel, it'd be amazing. the poll shows what the people want :), why deny them Uncle Steve? :)

No matter which direction Doctor Sleep takes, I know Stephen will do it justice. And I'm sure his Constant Readers will welcome it.

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I read The Shining only recently, about a month ago. It was the first King novel I'd read, and after the first few chapters it sky-rocketed to being one of my all-time favourite books. I'm 19 and after reading Inside Room 217 I couldn't go to the bathroom alone! The Shining is brilliant. I knew it was going to be scary but I had no idea it would be that frightening! And although I had a fair few nightmares halfway into it, what really stole the show for me was the relationships in the book, the characters of Wendy, Jack and Danny, and how amazingly personal it was. I didn't foresee the fact that I'd be crying by the end, but I did cry, and plenty at that. I felt so desperately sorry for Jack, Danny and Wendy. I wondered, though, about the epilogue, and how Wendy didn't seem as perturbed by Jack's death as a spouse normally would be, so I'd be really interested in reading a sequel to find out how she's doing a few years down the line. Danny was so adorable and innocent in The Shining, though; I don't know if I'd be able to picture him all grown up. One way or another I'm grateful to have read a great book like The Shining by an amazing author, and I hope there is going to be a sequel.
