Loving UTD! 60 pages in... awesome.

Last night I was at the Times Talk event in NYC! Be jealous. It was awesome... I wish everyone could see it.

But, Steve mentioned that an HBO series special is already in the works for UTD!!!

Hi Brad,

I am doing a case study for my masters on Under the dome and the publicity that is orchestrated. I live in London so have a fair amount of info about what is happening here but the angle I am taking is to compare that to the US. Could you let me know the issues that he spoke about during the times talk, how was the book promoted, how much were the tickets etc... Any info at all from someone who went rather than just looking at websites for the basics, would be such a help.

You can either leave a message on my profile here, email me at tinamories@googlemail.com or join and post the under the dome facebook group i have made. http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=175743353924&ref=mf

Best wishes and I hope you are enjoying the book.

King says early on in the clip that he “thinks” Under the Dome is “actually” going to be a HBO series. There’s no more info than that, and none more out there so far, but watch this space.

HBO would do a fine job with this. And if it was a series ––one would have plenty of time to fall into the spell––with all these characters––to really believe this tale.

I hope this comes to pass.

A great King novel given the same level of quality as such series as Carnivale and Deadwood (to name but two) sounds like a winner to me. Especially if Spielberg is one of the producers.

That's where The Dark Tower needs to be adapted, too; it's just too big to go anywhere else.

I just hope they don't let the success of the series (when it becomes one) go to their heads and make them decide to make the series longer then the book. Thats my fear. The speed of the book and its length (timeline) is important to the overall story.

I hope it goes to ABC or NBC instead. Lol. Just because I don't have HBO.

ABC, NBC or any of the basic cable syndicates shouldn't do it, imo.

HBO or another movie channel is the only way to go for a Sai King story. Too much violence and other adult themes to try and translate for basic cable.

Just order a trial the month it comes out.

I hear you on the HBO. I suppose we'll just have to wait for the dvd.
NBC, CBS, or ABC would hack it to bits. I don't think Sy-Fy could keep it solid either, so for the sake of art we will just have to be patient.

any casting ideas? How about Sly Stallone for Barbie?

I'd watch it whoever made it. I'm one of those people that can't honestly understand what gripes a lot of SK fans have with the adaptations. In most cases I read the book before or after and find they are all pretty good.

HBO is by far they best choice.
there production quality and directors out shine network tv by far.
Honestly MOST kings mini series have lacked polish, that i KNOW HBO can provide the viewer.

Thomas Jane would be a perfect Barbie.

Saying that makes me feel like I'm talking about dolls:laugh:

My ideas (although I managed to go the whole novel without actually picturing anyone as these characters):

Barbie = Chris Pine, Andy = Richard Dreyfuss, Big Jim = John Goodman, Junior = Aaron Paul, Rusty = Kyle Chandler

Can't think of anyone for Julia, for some reason.

To be honest, I'm a lot more interested in finding out who gets brought on board to write it.

I've said this before, but I really hope that UtD isn't adapted.

Why couldn't we have Skeet Ulrich as Barbie. He would be perfect. He was great in Jericho! That was kind of along the same line.

I pictured the skeet as him too.

How unfortunate to be named skeet... I won't go there but the song by ZZTOP called pearl necklace comes to mind...

When I was reading Under The Dome I thought The Chef could be played well by The Necro Butcher, who is a professional wrestler and was in the film The Wrestler. In my mind he fit the description of The Chef pretty well. He actually looks like he is addicted to meth naturally. He's lanky, he's missing teeth, he doesn't look like he's showered in the past 12 months. Plus, he has a pot leaf tattooed to his shoulder, which fits the character I suppose.

Thomas Jane as Barbie, that sounds pretty good, or Skeet, that could work.

Chris Pine, I have no idea why, as Junior. He just looks like he'd be Junior. And he's too young looking for Baaaaarbie imo.

No John Goodman, he's too fat.

Kyle chandler might work for Rusty, though. Idk for everyone else, I usually don't care in advance, I just complain when I see the movie and they don't capture my imagination :biggrin2:

I could picture Gene Hackman but he's officially retired.

John Goodman could actually be a good Big Jim. He's got the acting chops and Big Jim should be a little fat and unhealthy looking.

When reading Piper Libby, for some reason I pictured Edie Falco (from Sopranos, Nurse Jackie) as that character. I also pictured Edie Falco as Bobby Garfield's mom in Hearts in Atlantis. Something about SK's writing makes me think of that actress.

I think Kyra Sedgwick would be a good Julia Shumway, and I agree that John Goodman might be a wise choice for Big Jim.

I actually had a think about it and I would have to agree. He would be a good choice.

How about MC GAINER [Dukes of Hazzard 2005 fame] as Big Jim Rennie.

As pretty as Skeet is he can be named anything and it is ok with me!

Skeet or Thomas Jane as Barbie would be great.

I agree John Goodman would make a Big Jim. He does nasty well (look at Death Sentence for starters). But in my mind though I was always picturing someone less physically imposing (I"m not talking fat, just more that Goodman has a great sense of physical strength, where Rennie was physically weak and sickly, just mentally driven).

I'd love to see this made and hope they go through with it, whoever they choose.

Big Jim - John Goodman
Junior - Emile Hirsch
Barbie - Aaron Eckhart
Chef - Ben Foster
Rusty - Thomas Haden Church

Nooo please no Aaron Eckhart! That guy is so bad at acting. He spoiled every single movie he's in!

I think Maury Chaykin is a good Jim Rennie. John Goodman is too much of a good guy.

I haven't thought of a good Barbie yet... Woody Harrelson maybe...( a sane role for a change..:-)

Catherine Tate (if she can pull off a good american accent) for Julia Shumway.

Ben Foster is a good actor ,but I think he's a too young-looking. He has this boy-like face.
Scott Caan for Chef??

Jude Law for Carter Thibodeau.

The main reason Rennie was physically weak and sickly was down to his unhealthy lifestyle choices. He WAS overweight and advised to watch his diet, which he paid no attention to, so an actor like Goodman could portray that very well. Not only because he IS fat, but he's an exceptional actor IMO.

Personally I'm not too bothered about an adaptation of UTD at this point, but if Thomas Jane (swoon) was in it then that could sway me.

I would much rather "Under The Dome" become a movie rather than a series because it would attract a greater choice of talented actors to play the parts.
