When he meant to get sure that all the people who had bought any of his paintings were safe from them... how the hell could he forget about his loved daughter?!?! I know he was really exhausted.. he was over a big tragedy.. but still. Usually he was the one who could catch such things.
Did you cry out in your head: "HEEEY and what about your daughter?"
I did.
It didn't help though.

I don't know if it means anything, but he GAVE her the painting´and did not sell it to her. Could that be of significance?

He did say in the book that he was focusing on the art show, thinking of who got paintings/drawings then. So I believe his mind was really looking at that one day.
That's the explanation in the book, anyways...

Edgar had suffered a major head injury and at times couldn't even remember the correct word to describe something. So a recent event or memory could very easily be erased from his mind, especially under times of stress. And he was enduring a lot of stress. So forgetting he had given Ilse a painting is perfectly plausible to me. But with each page turning I wanted him to remember in time to save her. She was the person he loved most...unfortunately in SK's universe love isn't enough to save someone.

Besides the head injury, as it has been said, he was focusing on the show, and on the paintings he sold. You have to take into consideration that he gave her the painting and there was some time between that and the realization what they (the paintings) could do. So he actually had a right to forget. However I was aware of that, and in fact I kept it in mind so there was no shock for me there.

Well, thank you. It makes sense.
