Was anyone shocked as to the difference in where the Breakers were loacated in the Dark Tower vs where they were described in The Dark Tower? I mean the whole "Tower" itself was described competely different in the two novels.

Discuss....

Hi,

Let me finish Black House and then I will get back to you. I will surely know the answer to your question, I am already seeing some arguments here that I would like to clear up. But, to be perfectly reasonable, I will wait till I have finished Black House.

Thank you.

Long days and pleasant nights

Um... the little kids doing manual labor to run the heavy machinery weren't breakers, and the place where they were held captive wasn't The Tower.

Is that what you mean? Or are you talking about something that escaped me when I read those books?

We all float down here. With bleeding feetsies.

I ment to write:

Sorry for the confusion:oops:

My impression is that they are not in the same universes.

Mod- Really? I guess that makes sense considering the landscape around it.

Bryan James- haha.

Lencho- I thought that that was the "Tower", or maybe the Tower of that universe?

I read this book over a year ago, it was just something I got to thinking about the other day when I saw it at the book store. So, if I am way off base on my recollection of events, forgive me.

I never thought of the "Big Combination" as a diffrent tower but a diffrent version of Devar-Toi.

The train ride for the kids through the waste reminded me somewhat of the land Blaine showed the DT crew on their ride above the waste. I'm wondering if they were traveling in between Thinnies maybe?

I immediatley thought of Blaine and the childrens book illustration when they talked about the kids coming on mono's. The DT connections in this book are great. Cant wait for book 3 of this series.

not as shocked as i was when this guy asked me, directly, if i'd ever been done in the arse, while a hand-less man sat on the stop, there in my new apt near drake university, cackled. the hand-less man looked like someone's rendition of popeye. four years later, the rent was higher, and i moved east.
you be talking about black house and the dark tower books, then? my impression is that there were'n't any breakers in b.h. kids, yes. and maybe that is a take on the twinners from the calla. dunno. might curious, though, but was so involved with b.h. at the time, and times subsequent, that i went w/the flow. fun stuff, any way you look at it, and it is fun, looking at it.
high five!

Remember...there are other worlds than these....so many parallel universes and worlds that are similar, but not quite the same. Even characters who are really the same person, but are someone else in another world. So many possibilities.....

The place where the Breakers were was NOT The Dark Tower. They are two totally separate places.

Okay, spoilers ahoy for Black House and the later two Dark Tower books:

The Breakers were never described as being IN the Dark Tower. Neither were they in the Great Combination. That was where the failed breaker children were sent. I don't think Black House actually described where the breakers were kept... so that was answered in The Dark Tower.

I did think that the region in which Jack and the biker lads rescued the boy and confronted Mr Munshun was End-World though which is a region of Roland's world. There is some speculation that the Great Combination might be another name for the Forge of the King. This means the rescue of the children and the dimming of the forge happened shortly after Song of Susannah, probably in the early part of the Dark Tower.

I do wonder where that borderlands place was in which Jack had his palaver with Sophie and Parkus. The suggestion was that it was close to the Territories but not quite there. Does that mean it was another region of the same world as the Territories? (Bearing in mind The Territories seems to actually be a country rather than specifically the name of a world. Although it's often used that way, much like Mid-World is.) Or is it another world altogether, just close by? Is it Mid-World itself? I don't think The Territories and Mid-World are part of the same world though.

I don't doubt that when the Big Combination went bye bye is when the Crimson King went mad and killed everyone in Fedic and Castle Discordia, and then swallowed the spoon that killed himself.

As for the Breakers, they most certainly were not in the Tower, they were in the Devar Toi, (or if you prefer in the Basement making all the money) I don't think the children working the Big Combination had anything to do with the Calla's children at all. The twins in the Calla's had something in their brains that boosted the power of the Breakers when taken from them. The children running the Big C, were just unlucky, got kidnapped to run it because they didn't have what the Breakers did (the talent for Breaking) so they were just put to work, to work until they died on their bleeding foodzies.

As for the Territories, they are I think part of Roland's universe, but a borderland, where they met to palaver in the speaking ring, had one of the Little Sister's tents remember. So that tells me they are at least in the same world. Parkus/Speedy speaks of Gunslingers and The Dark Tower with much knowledge, and appears to be (at least in my mind) a form of Gunslinger himself. He told Sophie he still puts on "The Big Iron" but that it was a delusion on his part, saying without saying it that he may be a sort of Law man, but was never took the test of a Gunslinger.

I know the third book has been in the works for a long time, and I often wonder what the story is going to be. Will we see Wolf's again? What about the Blasted Lands? DO you think this is the part of Mid-World that Blaine took the Tet through? I certainly do, all the symptoms fit from when Jack and Rational Richard went through them. The pimples and sickness Richard suffered certainly sound like radiation sickness to me. Much like the Rods suffered, much like the Slo-mutants suffer as well. Those things tell me it's the same world at least.

Grrr.. now I am going to be stuck with all of this in my head when I should be working on my finals!

My Opinion:
I don't think these kids are in THE Tower but A tower. Tyler Marshall is meant to become a Breaker but he never gets to where the other Breakers are kept in DT. Rolands world(s) is huge and Parkus seems to have a vast knowledge of what is going on there so I think they are from the same world. The first time I read BH I hadn't read any DT I'm rereading it again now ( after having reread all of DT) and while I think it's obvious they are related I feel like they are more like distant cousins than brothers.

See that makes more sense to me. I read BH before the the DT series, so I always had in my mind that the kids were in the DT. As I said in a previous post, it's been awhile since I read it.

Thanks everyone to all of your responses, it has cleard things up for me.
