Stephen
what authors/books would you recommend to a somewhat reluctant-reader teen GUY?

You've put this in the On Writing forum, so if you check out the back of that book, there are several pages of books Stephen recommends. If you're a reluctant reader, the key is to find something that interests you, e.g. is it science fiction, mysteries, the more visceral horror, etc. and try to find something in that vein. Once you get some of those under your belt, then hopefully the reading bug will have taken hold and you'll be ready to go onto something else. You might also check out the Bred Any Good Rooks Lately forum as there are many books suggested there and/or other members might be able to help you out if you can give some more information about what things interest you. :smile2:

Piers Anthony is all over the place with the "Xanth" books. I liked the heck out of them when I always had one hidden behind an algebra book at school. I never finished his more advanced "Bio of a Space Tyrant" series, but I liked the first few.

Terry Brooks...start with the early Shannara stuff. "Sword" and "Elfstones" are a good starting point.

Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series is also a very long read...the first book was a complete page-ripper!

Try some "old school" with Jack London's short stories.

Short story compilations are the new novel.

I hear that some Stephen King guy has written a lot of great ones. Maybe some day he'll get something published.

Hi Samax,
Your post is a little vague. Are You reluctant to read Stephen King?, or are You reluctant to read in general? If You are reluctant to read, why would you want some one to recomend a book/author? Anyway you slice it Ms. Mod summed it up pretty well. Just find some thing you like or something that interest you. Reading is a fun and heathy hobby, great for the mind and spirit! Don't be suprised if you start a book (or many) that you just don't care for. Stick with it till you find what works for you. ..........Take care!

for a teen GUY, I would recommend "The Dark Tower" series.

There are a million really drawn out reasons why I say that, but I think all you need to know is that the main character, Roland, doesn't take crap from anyone or anything.
