Hi all,

I'm brand new here. "The Shining" was the first SK book I ever read (in hardcover, as a college freshman in 1977) and it remains my favorite to this day. I'm aware that there are several places where I can read "Before the Play," but I recently read that SK originally wrote a lengthy epilogue to the novel that the publisher ended it scrapping, and that it was subsequently "lost."

Does anyone know if it still exists, or any of the details of the epilogue?

I've always been interested in what happens to Danny. He'd be in his 30s now, around the same age as his faher when he went off the deep end. Well, here's hoping that Mr. King has been wondering the same thing.

Thanks,

JP

I've come to wonder how much of the epilogue was really "lost" -- from what I've read about it, most of it seems to be in the novel. There was a reference to the manuscript in an auction several years ago, and the length of the document seemed to be comparable to what was published.

I heard over on Fearnet.com that S.K. has a new novel in the works and it's about Danny Torrence as an adult. I wonder if Ms. Mod has any news about this?

It isn't being worked on at the moment. You can read about it here (http://www.stephenking.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15754).
