Is it Dog or Snake?

If this has been brought up before, I apologize. I admittedly was too lazy to search for a similar thread.

So, I'm looking at two sites which King has endorsed that state/show that one of the beam guardians is a snake.

"Oh, and for those of you who are wondering, all 12 Guardians of the Beam are as follows: Turtle, Bear, Hare, Fish, Bird (Eagle), Rat, Snake, Lion, Horse, Bat, Wolf and Elephant."

Yet the official site shows a dog instead of a snake (http://www.stephenking.com/darktower/glossary.html)

So I have to ask, which is it? If it was always dog, where did people get the idea that it was snake instead, and why was it never corrected? And why have dog when you already have wolf?

The DTC (which I would assume is/was The Dark Tower Compendium) has put a lot of merchandise on their site that we have never seen before and that was added after Steve gave his initial approval to do some t-shirts. We are not personally involved with the operation of that site or the accuracy of its content. Stephen's official site uses the chart drawn by Robin Furth and published in her DT Concordance and I would put my trust in that one. There are six beams with a guardian on either side of the beam. The beams and guardians are:

Elephant/Wolf
Rat/Fish
Bat/Hare
Eagle/Lion
Dog/Horse
Turtle/Bear
