Hi All, I'm new to this site but not new to Stephen King's work--I read my first Stephen King book when I was 10 (Firestarter), and I've never stopped. However, I never got to read the Dark Tower series until now, and I am actually glad, because I didn't have to wait for any of the books to come out. I bought them all at the same time, and since I had time off, I basically just read them from start to finish. I barely made time to do anything else, I was so absorbed, and I finished them all in about a week and a half. My husband tolerated this pretty well, I thought, considering.:wink2:

Anyway, I am writing for a couple of reasons. I've had this urge ever since I finished to let Stephen King and the world know just how great I thought the series was. They were AMAZING!!!! I am an avid reader and have read innumerable books written by highly respected authors, and I have to say, I enjoyed these probably more than any other book I have ever read. I can't believe that guy from the New York Times was such a snot about them. What an ass!!! He probably is so desperate to keep up his image of himself as a literary snob that he couldn't even let himself just relax and enjoy some fabulous writing. Oh, well, his loss--idiot!

The other reason I am writing is because I am sad--now that I am done with the series, I kind of feel like I've lost my best friend. I want more!!! I don't know how to get it though. I am excited but also worried about the possibility of a movie about the series because movies always seem to replace the pictures I had of the characters in a less than desirable way. I just want more books, more about Roland especially! Does he ever get beyond the endless cycle? How? If another book were written about this, I would be the happiest person in the world, and I bet a lot of other people would be too (well, I guess not all of us could be THE happiest person in the world, but you know what I mean). (hint, hint) :biggrin2:

Anyway, thanks to Stephen King and his wife Tabitha for everything you've given us over the years. Keep em coming, if you so desire!

All the best,
Olivia

I agree, you kind of feel lost after you finish book 7. Like, "What will I read now?"

I see SK's still writing. Just after Sunset is still high up on the NYT bestseller list.

Have hope...the Dark Tower saga has not ended. King is writing an 8th book in the series. Also, there is the graphic novel series which covers a lot of things in the background of the series. It's (for the most part) wonderful.

Also look for The Little Sisters of Eluria. It's a short story about a Roland adventure. I can't remember off hand what collection it is in.

Yes. Look at the thread I started in this forum "Say it IS so"

Also, Olivia, there is an amazing Dark Tower interactive game coming out at the end of next month. Check out the preview at http://www.stephenking.com/darktower

That's an old article you posted, though. Even Ms. Mod says that things have changed since then (though she won't elaborate, natch).

Thank you! I just bought a new collection of short stories, and I am hoping it's the right one. :-)

Ah, the only tower thing i have left to read now is little sisters of eluria...but even then i don't know. I too feel like a friend was lost in the process of finishing this book. Haha, now when i read his other works im probably going to feel like i have some higher knowledge of the happenings of the books *ka*
Ahhh, why did such a beautiful series have to come to an end?
And about the film, i don't know that one should be made because i can almost certainly say that no amount of fancy camera work can replicate the beautiful images im sure all of our imaginations conjured up while reading King's fantastic work.

You can always plug into the comic books. Robin Furth continues the story of The fall of Gilead. There is an entire battle scene wherein certain persons meet thier ultimate demise. More story chunks!
