There are so many clues when Roland finally catches up with the Man in Black. Just went through it again and wanted to share.
page 290. "Yet suppose further. Suppose that all worlds, all universes , met in a single nexus, a single pylon, a Tower. And within it, a stairway, perhaps rising to the Godhead itself. Would you dare climb to the top, gunslinger? Could it be somewhere above all of endless reality, there exists a Room?...
"You dare not."
And in the gunslinger's mind, those words echoed. You dare not.
Is Walter pulling a Brer Rabbit? "Oh please don't throw me into the brier patch! Anywhere but there!"
When in fact that's exactly where Brer Rabbit wants to go because he get away from the fox and the bear.
"Oh gunslinger, you'd never make it all the way to the top of the Tar-baby Tower. You dare not even try"
"Oh yeah! I'll show you!" And he trudges along, again. Only to be shat back out into the desert.
