Hello Uncle Stevie,
I am fortunate to have The Wilton (NH) Town Hall Theatre nearby. I've known the owner for 30 yrs (I'm 47) and his niche is the independent or 'artsy fartsy' films, not the cineplex stuff. I've seen some of my favorite films there and it even has a 'Screening Room' with exactly 60 seats just as you wrote in your column. The main theatre used to have vaudeville acts and show newsreels to the locals during the 40s. Denis pipes in music from that era while you wait for the red velvet curtain to part, show previews or an old Merrie Melodies cartoon, A Little Rascals or Three Stooges short then the curtains close and re-open for the feature just like when I was a kid at the Bangor Bijou (I lived in Bangor when it burned down around 1972)
The place even has a balcony! It's closed to the public but sometimes Denis will ask, on the down low, if I want to sit up there instead. It's like stepping back in time.
I know you like your concessions when you go to the movies. How about REAL melted butter on your popcorn instead of that monkey grease at the cineplex.
BTW, I love the Dark Tower comics. Good stuff.
