Recently (just today) I had finished reading "wolves of the calla".

And I'm sure everyone has made this connection in how it's a very surreal western in that there's a town in trouble by an outside force and the townspeople hire wandering gunslingers to rid them of this problem.

But since this is Stephen King - nothing is ordinary.

Although, in the way that there are references to advanced technology that is slowly winding down to a halt.

There is a Japanese Anime that is a lot like that called "Trigun". It is set on a distant world (though not explicitly named but is said at several sites) called "Gunsmoke". On this world is a wandering outlaw named "Vash the Stampede" who has the largest bounty on his head.

The connection that I saw to Wolves of the Calla is how the world of Trigun is filled with advanced technology that is growing old and starting to wind down to a halt.

Would be interesting to show this to Stephen King himself, just to see his reaction.

The basic plot of Wolves (scared town hiring gunslingers to protect them) is taken from the film The Seven Samurai, which was remade as a western in the U.S. as The Magnificent Seven.

It is the same plot that's in Wolves of the Calla but it's done in a way with surrealism, magic, and suspense that only Stephen King can do.

Yes, the general outline of Wolves of the Calla is done with a nod to The Magnificent Seven. But it's so much more than that. :)
