Anyone read the short story 'Memory' that Duma Key was expanded from? It was reprinted in the back of the novel 'Blaze'. I saw it there and decided not to read it until after I had finished Duma Key, not wanting to spoil anything.

If you want to read it before discussing it, then stop reading this post now.

It's basically a condensed version of the beginning of Duma Key, up until he puts the dog hit by the Hummer out of its misery. There is no reference to him moving to Fla at all, and while his doctor is still Kamen, it's seems like a bit of Wireman's personality is in the doctor.

And actually, I found the story a bit odd, and unfinished. Didn't seem to go anywhere. Of course, that could have been influenced by seeing these characters expanded upon so much in Duma Key.

Yea, I never really thought Mr. King intended this story to be a stand alone story, did he? I felt as though he was just offering a taste of potential future work.

In Blaze, the preface to the short story mentions it was published in Tin House magazine.

Is memory different? I read it after finishing Duma Key, and I was under the impression that it was the same as the first few pages.
