For the past several years, Message Board members have collaborated on writing a Halloween story. Each person participating writes a section of the story and then hands it on to the next one in line and at the end there is a complete story. We post each section daily so that you get to read it in a serial format.

I couldn`t understand if you need to be invited to write a part of the story - thus, I didn`t write anything.
But, since my b-day is on Devil`s Night (one day before Halloween) I`m sure something will happen(not scary and really good) and I`ll have a story anyway...:biggrin2:

Dark Writer, you wonderfully described the atmosphere and the dread that hangs over the old asylum.
Staropeace, you gave a warm respite from the grimness of DW's start.
I really believe that some lightness from time to time is needed in a horror tale in order to give the reader a chance to catch her breath! (Of course, then she lets down her guard.) :biggrin2:
All in all, you have got my attention.
Thank you for your efforts.:biggrin2:

one question, why would Karen have the password to the computers when she just walked into her first day of work?
It's an asylum for the "Criminally Insane," so there would probably be a deep background check for a new employee along with some related administrative housekeeping. Protocol basics, a network password, a handbook, that sort of thing. Anyway, the computer system doesn't seem to have much of a role so far, and we're almost done. Suspend your disbelief, as there are goods a-come.

Hey did you guys know that I am actually a nurse, and have actually worked in Laugh factories like this one before? I would loved to have seen some real world detail thrown in there. For instance Nurses don't wear scrubs or whites in Insane assylums, It wigs out the residents. Yes residents, most of the Crazies are wards of the state and the hospitals to which they are interned are considered a place of resident for them. I mean the drug cocktails etc. I might just try to draft up a short story of my own... never tried it but it wounds like it could be fun...

Low-level account, and it's a closed network within the facility...but like I said, I don't expect the computer system to be a major player in this game. We still have some writers burning synapses, so I might be wrong....

Matt-In a few words you were able to sum up both characters. Shy, tentative new nurse with the older, more experienced and jaded head nurse.
Also the disregard the head nurse has for the receptionist indicating some kind of power struggle there.
I thought it most ironic the factual contrast you drew between smoking tobacco and chewing it. Also you described well the grimness of the places that smokers are now relegated.
Grear submit.

That's the point. She wouldn't have the passwords, they didn't expect her to have to passwords, yet she still got a message on a closed network addressing her. It's supposed to not make sense.

PatriciaA- I felt no interruption; nothing but a smooth seamless pickup from the prior writers.
Angela becomes more and more sinister and maybe indicates that she is abusive towards her patients.
That was great, succinct description of the lobotomy procedure. (A Truly barbaric practice. Reminds me of poor Rosemary Kennedy and her narrow- minded father, Joe. Although, you could say, some good came from that horrific act; the Special Olympics was formed in Rosemary's honor by her sister Eunice.)
Karen comes across as a damaged person but also a determined one. (Twelve-step program and pursuit of the mystery of Room 319.)
THANKS, PatriciaA!!

You made me wonder did Karen actually synchronise her footsteps with Angela, or did Angela at that moment disappear?

You have presented a very interesting twist here! The nurse from the ghostly room in the basement is all cleaned up and taking care of a stunned Karen along with Nurse Angela. Karen is restrained on a bed!!
Good twist!!

The mysterious 'nutbin' in town has been rehabilitated without using local hands and Karen is hired by someone standing in line with her at the bank????
Kyle is skeptical and queries the internet to find out that the woman who had hired Karen killed herself years ago at the same 'nutbin'.
Wonderful hints here, Dana!!!

Well, girl, you had me clutching my chest while you were describing Angela's changing visage. Shapeshifter? Something more evil?
Who da' heck is the Head nurse? Someone has authority over the Bobbsey twins of sticking evil needles!!? What the heck kind of a place is this? Most interesting...
Is it Kyle on the phone?? AAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!
Bartender, pour me a brew while I light up my cigarrette. Phewwee!!!

If you didn`t do it yet, sit down, write a novel and publish.

My apologies to psj77 and patinthehat. I didn't make the cut-off for the Board closing on Friday afternoon so had added patinthehat's piece to the post for psj77 in order to have the two sections I'd promised. When I separated them out, the "thanks" didn't stay with the posts so it looks like no one had thanked them for their piece of the story.

Just realized that if I do that it will erase all of the Thanks that are attributed to that post so don't want to go back through but will add the link for the last set of posts. When the Valentine's Day story is posted, I'll be sure to do that from the start.

I often wonder if Sai King has read the story, or if he ever read a Halloween Story at all, for that matter. Would be interesting to know, wouldnīt it?
Btw, I donīt recall if I gave my opinion on the story, probably not here yet, so, congratulations to everyone, cause I think it is great. I had moments in which I thought 'how the hell are they going to finish this?', specially after my part, but you did an amazing job!
