This was my first taste of Mr. King's books ever. I was 11 and thought that in North American books children (especially small cute ones) and pets are always ALWAYS safe from harm. Boy, did I had a surprise coming.
Since then I've heard some people disliking the end of this book. Personally I feel it was the only proper ending - the only one possible. That hand on his shoulder, that voice with the dust in its mouth... Perfect! But what do you think?

The ending follows the way the character's progressive thinking takes it. This is to say – the ending works character wise & theme wise – so yeah, I think it works and I think it was really good. In terms of the last page – with the dirt in Louis "wife's" mouth – it was okay. I loved that book but felt kind of empty by the end of it I guess you could say. Which might have been King's wish.

I thought the ending was OK. It felt a bit too Hollywood, but I honestly can't think of any other way the book should have ended, lol. So I'll take it.

I just finish the book this morning, the end is perfect... I don't think there was another way to finish it, it leaves you wondering if it worked the last time.... amazing!!

I just finished the book and i thought Louis was going to commit suicide with one of the needles full of morphine while the house burned down.

It ended just as it should have, and I understand the feeling of emptiness. That book was the grimmest I've ever read, and I think for a couple of days afterward-I was probably clinically depressed. Now that's powerful penmanship!

I agree that it ended as it should have. I really didn't find this book scary until the last 50 pages or so(i was feeling very depressed), and i don't know about anyone else but when SK was describing how Louis was now gone completely insane and his hair turned white and he had aged by 30 years or so, that was the bit that scared me the most.

It was an alright ending, it's cool that it leaves you on a cliffhanger.

the run up to the ending was such a suspense ride!
I kinda wished Rachel turned out to be the hero after all saving louis and coming to terms with her death problems by re-dispatching her son! too optimistic? probably
but i cant stop wondering what happened next?? did she come back ok?? i doubt it but i really hope so....

I loved the ending to Pet Sematary. It leaves you out in the open to let your imagination take its path. What you don't know is scary. It had a great build up to a great ending. Really good book.

I thought the way King wrote Lou was utterly amazing...his thoughts. Like at the end where he says something like, "I guess I should kill myself now, and I want to..." very real to me. It showed his insanity clearly...
