Regarding the movie, which features a great leading performance from Christopher Walken in one of his earliest starring roles, you can buy it here...

http://www.amazon.com/Dead-Zone-Special-Collectors/dp/B000GBEWH0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1254153175&sr=1-2

Hope that helps. Purchase, and you won't regret. :cool2:

The TV version was a long-running weekly series, and it had its moments. They made some changes to the dynamic of the characters which were interesting, and some of the episodes were very well done.

yeah they turned it into a series but it started with a movie that I just bought and watched it was pretty good but they cut half of the book, I guess so they could turn it into the series.

The tv series has some good reviews on amazon. I think I may invest! I loved the movie with Christopher Walken and Martin Sheen.

Both versions were unique in their own way. The original with Walken was good because it had a creepy feel to it, and Walken captures every moment. Sheen was very convincing in the movie. The movie was directed by David Cronenberg; his films are either hit or miss with me. I enjoyed the TV series because I thought it was good in its own right, not because I'm a Stephen King fan. Regardless of whether it was the "Dead Zone" or some other original idea, I still would have loved the TV series anyways.

I have never watched the show really, just a few episodes. But I thought the movie was very well done. I loved Christopher Walken in the role of Johnny. I think the movie was filmed in Quebec somewhere, at least some parts of it, but I'm not sure. Anybody can tell me if it's the case? Some canadian actors were playing some of the characters, like Dodd's, Johnny's mom and dad, and maybe a few others. I loved the openning score with the images shown. :smile2:

There was a T.V. movie? I know about the T.V. series, I watched it a few times and then turned it off (it wasn't very good.)

The movie was well done. You got the sense of his ability very vividly.

I think the "TV movie" was actually the pilot episode to the series.
I loved the original movie and the series. I know they took some liberties and changed some stuff for the series, but they kinda had to in order to keep it going as a weekly series. I was very sad that the show was cancelled before truly wrapping up.

I have a terrible confession:
I knew the USA Network series before.. the book!

But, allow me to explain. I started watching USA because The 4400 was on that channel, and I watched that one straight from the pilot. But my parents always watched The Dead Zone, so I started watching it with them, too. The next thing I know my dad's putting a copy of the novel in my hands and ordering me to read it. He and my mom are both big King fans, and I am so glad that they got me into his writing, too.
Before I knew it I had finished TDZ and was reading ever King book in sight, but Dead Zone has remained my favourite -- and I was crushed when the USA series was canceled! Of course I'll always love Christopher Walken as Johnny Smith, but Anthony Michael Hall did some neat things with the roll. He gave it a bit of a younger life, to me. Shame they canceled the series on a cliffhanger.. It didn't quite follow "canon" but I thought it was a neat adaption.
All it lacked was that one amazing line from the movie:
"The ICE... is GOING... to BREAK!"
