It's not an official visit to Canada but the Prime Minister's chief spokesperson says Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi will make a stop in St. John's Newfoundland in the coming days. The PMO's Dimitri Soudas says Gadhafi will stop in the capital city on his way back to Libya from New York where he attended the United Nations General Assembly. Soudas says it's common practice for heads of state and government to refuel in this province before transatlantic flights. Prime Minister Stephen Harper has asked Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon to meet the leader. Cannon will voice this country's disapproval over the hero's welcome organized for the man responsible for the Lockerbie terrorist bombing. He says it constitutes an insult to all victims who died including Canadians.

And also no Tim Hortons coffee or doughnuts for him.

Hi,

Aye, but it's always better to build bridges rather than walls IMO.

Long days and pleasant nights

Contentious to say the least to assert that Gaddafi was behind the Lockerbie bombing. Little is as it seems in the Machiavellian world of global politics.

Definitely time, IMO, for Western leaders and their Moslem counterparts to do what they can to foster peace between these two ideologies, and make the world a safer place in the process. :smile2:

The dude is a clown. Did you hear his wonderful address to the United Nations? At least it wasn't as wacky, er, at least long, as Castros rants, hehe. Half the people walked out too. It was packed waiting for Obama to come in, because everybody wants to hear him. :D

But yeah, he can't fool me. The Lockerbie bomber was, what, the head of the Lybian intelligence team, during the time Pan Am Flight 103 blew up? And what the hell is going on with that deal Britian made with Lybia, including showing them how one of the most highest acclaimed terror and sabotage defeating military force, that was created during World War II to stop Nazi sabatoge, works to defeat the terrorism? What the hell? Britian showed Mr-In-Bed-With-Terrorism exactly how we defeat terrorists?

Wheeeeeeeeeeee! Step right up, to the three thousand ring circus! ;)

I thought the address to the UN was entertaining. Especially his explanation on SNL.

Agreed... big stick diplomacy only works when you're not using the big stick, especially when you stop using it in favor of one party and not the other. I think at this point its time to ask whether or not continuing a bad policy is better than making the tougher decision to cut and run.

And if you don't respect the sovereignty of both parties, you will force one to act outside the realm of diplomacy and you will naturally end up with extreme measures. Doesn't excuse it, but it's going to (and has) happen. Understanding has to be given to all sides of a conflict in order to resolve it peacefully.
