Thanks.....I am familar with his style. Meaning that I have read 4/7 of the dark tower books. However, those books were not just horror. They had a mix of elements from several genres--fantasy, Sci-Fi, and western. So this will be my first novel that is not mixed with any other genre (well, I think so). I am aspiring writer....so I want to get a grips on a writer who writes well, and I heard that King is pharmenal at what he does. My hats goes off to him.

I found a rare hardcover copy in my lil book store I frequent for all my hard to find SK books. They had $50.00 on it, looked as though it had not even been read. It had a mostly white cover and included some sketches inside. Does anyone know if this is legit, is it worth that? I don't have that kind of money for a book anyway, but my birthday is coming up! I am sure I will love the book, haven't read it yet.

I can't find any paperbacks right now. Went one time and there were several, was that way this time with Dreamcatcher and a couple of others. But I didn't pick it up at that time, because I was really looking for all the Dark Tower books.

I wouldn't call The Stand just horror. It is definitely more than horror.

I heard that before. It is my predilection to say that. I think there are western traits in as well.

I doubt it if there's a chance you'll be disappointed by this epic novel. It is definitely at my top 3 list.

Seen a paperback at Walmart this morning and picked it up. I really did want the harcover I found at a used book store for $50, but I couldn't afford it and the people refused to come down off the price. So I settled. But am looking forward to reading this book!!!!:biggrin2:

I've read The Stand 8 or 9 times. I've never been so attached to characters before! I start to cry pages before the "bad stuff" happens. I love that Tom gets the best of Flagg because he is "simple".

Great book, my personal favorite! Very scary that under the right (or wrong) conditions, that a deadly disease could really get loose & leave the world in such a mess. It's a long read but if you ever get a chance, read it again. If you're like me, you'll find all sorts of things that you misssed.

I also just purchased the Stand in my favourite used book nook..The hard copies are hard to find..The book is in good (not perfect) condition and cost $35.00. I had to buy it. There was a first edition copy of Cujo and Misery there also but the price was $270.00 for each of them. Save your old hard copies!!
