Greetings from Texas!
Does anyone know if the signed editions will be flatsigned, tipped-in, or auto-pen?
Thanks,

They are original signatures, tipped in. Steve does not do auto-pen signatures if I'm understanding your use of the term correctly, i.e. a mechanical replication of his signature.

Awesome! Thank you. That's a lot of signing he did!

Ms. Mod, do you know if the Signed Collectors' Edition will be numbered?
I'm going to have a regular signed copy from one of Stephen's appearances, so I'd only want to battle for a copy of the Simon & Schuster version if it's part of a numbered edition.

I don't believe it is going to be numbered but it will have extra features that the mass market edition does not.

That's my understanding. Here's the link (http://promo.simonandschuster.com/under-the-dome-signed-edition/?mcd=z_090910_CLP_Under-The-Dome_StephenKing) to Scribner's page for the signed edition that gives the description and links to the others.

Posted this in the UTD signing thread also, but the NY venue is finally realizing that they need to rethink the first-come/first-served approach and are getting back to us in the next couple of days with their alternate plan. My guess is that the signed collector's edition will be sold out before they get back to us.

Hi,
This great leap into the uncharted waters of joined-up-thinking on the part of the NY venue is to be applauded.

The list of people in Chester Mill on the fateful day, is listed at the back of the paperback edition of "Just After Sunset". (H&S version I have)

I was wondering if anyone knows why Scribner will only deal with domestic US market and not allow international customers to subscribe to the collectors edition.
I can't believe in this day and age and with the internet that they cannot manage to receive orders and ship internationally !
Very disappointed that I cannot even participate in it

Not proper here, but could anybody order the signed UTM for me? I am in Japan and I have found the address in US they can send to, but my VISA's billing address of Japan does not work. I had messages this is strictly only to US from S&S. Thank you.

My understanding is that it is because it would infringe upon Hodder & Stoughton's market and their publication of a signed collector's edition.

I'd agree with this except Hodder has not announced any type of collector's edition, let alone a signed one. I would think if they were going to issue one, it would be at least announced by now.

What I know that you don't is that Hodder did ask Steve for permission to do a signed limited and he agreed to do 500. I don't know if that is still their plan or at what phase of the production they may be in, but regardless of whether they've announced anything, they did ask and received permission to do one.
There are legal restrictions for publishers to not enter another market. Steve's agent explained this to me at one time but I don't recall the finer details of what those restrictions are. It may also be as simple as their not wanting to deal with shipping internationally and having to deal with all the extra work of preparing the customs documents necessary to ship outside the U.S.

Hi Ms Mod,
Are there plans for a signed edition, or any future signed editions to be available for Australian residents? We've been hanging out for quite some time now and would love the opportunity to purchase one of Stephen's books signed.

Hi.
Newbie here. Just wanted to say thanks for this informative thread.
I hesitated too long on the signed collectors edition from S&S, but have at least placed my order for an unsigned one from Amazon. I'll be getting at least one signed regular edition (when SK comes to Sarasota) and am hoping to be able to see him in Atlanta as well.
Thanks,
John

FYI....I am pleased to have been able to buy this special signed collector's edition, but I'm disappointed that S&S charged my credit card for the full price 6 weeks before they intend to ship it.
Let's see.....1500 x $ 200 = .....wow....$300,000 they get to keep in an interest bearing account for 6 weeks. I'm sure that will help them defray the net loss they expect by having to sell these books for only $200!
jchanic
October 6th, 2009, 04:18 PM
But interest rates are so low now that I'm sure even with $300k, they're not making a lot of money.

The signed collectors editions that will be going on sale tomorrow, does anyone know how many copies there will be? I have a friend in the States who has agreed to try and get one for me but I am not sure she will be able to get on at exactly 9.00am. Will it be pointless her trying if she can't get on at that time? I know last time they sold in a matter of hours but I am assuming that there will be even less books to be sold now.

If she can't get on until noon, I don't think she'll have much of a chance. The first time they sold 1500 copies in about five to six hours. I assume there will be far fewer books available, so I'd expect them to sell out in less than three. Of course, I could be wrong!

I don't have an exact count, but my understanding is that there are only a few hundred available so I would expect they will sell out quickly.

Well I am hoping that my friend can secure a copy for me. I have told her that there is likely only to be a few hundred copies and will probably sell out within hours. She is due to go into labour in 3 days and is having to set her alarm for 6.00am (CA) to try and get it for me, assuming she isn't in hospital of course! I have told her she might as well start the early mornings now:biggrin2: Will be sure to post and let you know the outcome. Fingers crossed!

Pre-order is available again from Simon & Schuster at the below link, which started at 9:00am ET today, 10/15/09 (evidently they had some left over from the September offering). I decided to fork out the $200 (gulp) and get this special edition, which is signed and includes some cool stuff - I cannot WAIT!!
I am also a Kindle user, and will purchase a Kindle version if and when one is announced (so my collector's edition is just for handling with kidd gloves) :wink2:
As of this post - they are not sold out yet!!

Oh, yes, I forgot in my last post to congratulate all those who got the US signed edition in the second time around. The site still seems to accepting orders, so I'd make sure your credit card actually got charged before I'd feel safe in getting one of the copies. I have the feeling that they may be taking more orders than they have books available.

Well, after debating with myself multiple times, I called a friend and we discussed the possible purchase of the book. Since I had the money to spare, and would pretty much just have it for display and keeping great care of it, and something to pass down when I have kids, I decided to go ahead and order it...I can't wait now to recieve it.

I am really worried now, do you know if your credit card has been charged right away? I wouldn't have thought they would take more orders than they could fulfil? I thought they were selling surplus stock from the orders that couldn't be fulfilled last time (overseas orders), so surely they would know how much stock they had before agreeing to the purchase!

You may have an "old" copy of that site in your cache. The edition is no longer available and hasn't been for a couple weeks. Clear your cache and check it again.
Your best bet to get a copy is via one of the secondary sources, such as eBay. I'd recommend waiting a while until the initial spike in prices settles down (a copy went for about $700 not too long ago) and try then. You'll pay more than the inital $200 price, but it should settle down to about $300-$350 soon. Just a guess, though, on those prices.

I apologize for the double post...but I got it to work through UPS tracking. Looks like it will be in on Monday the 9th...as much as I do not want to read that copy, it will be so tempting to pick it up instead of waiting for my copy to arrive from Amazon (whenever they decide to ship it)

I too have received my "Signed Limited Edition" (I saw another post about this somewhere...), and I am disappointed not to have received the "stamped case" (I assumed this was a "slip case"....is that too much to expect for $200?) referred to in S&S's copy on their site. Verbatim:
This edition of Under the Dome, Stephen King's tour-de-force new novel about a Maine town suddenly cut off by an invisible, impenetrable Dome, has a belly band around the jacket, a stamped case, four-color printed endpapers, 27 part title illustrations of characters in the book drawn by renowned New Yorker cartoonist Matthew Diffee, and a ribbon maker. The edition also contains a deck of 27 special collector's cards featuring the Diffee caricatures. Printed on speciality paper. Shrink-wrapped.
I've written S&S to ask for an explanation.

Hi i replied to someone on this friday---
what is your definition of a stamped case?
I am no expert by any means but I took off the dust jacket and tilted the cover and lo and behld i had a stamped Dog (horace Greelley) on the cover.. and stamped SK name, title and scribner on the Spine)
So i think that is STAMPED ?
cheers
