Any one who has afeeling they maybe addicted to shopping should read 'Needful Things'. The idea of a shop containing your hearts desire is appealing but the price has to be your very soul. Is capitalism asking for our souls do you think? I Think that is what I felt after reading this roller coaster of a book.

Hi,
That's exactly what I took out of it, Denise (superb book BTW).
Or greed at any rate, as if there's a difference,
Long days and pleasant nights

Yea, it will make them realize how useless most of the object they just "Can't Live Without" are useless, and meaningless.

Do you know what the absolute scary thing is? I have actually seen a shop by the name of Needfull Things. It was (not sure if it is still there) in the Northern Melbourne suburb of Lalor in the shopping precinct.
I have never stepped foot in the shop and actually flat out refused to even peer through the door. I did look on the door to see if the proprietor went by the name or initials of Leyland Gaunt, but was sadly disappointed that it wasn't. My aunty would often go in there, but I tried telling her not to, but she isn't a SK fan.....

Needful Things very much made me reevaluate my own shopping habits, and how much I really had to have my own needful things. I, too, got the vibe throughout the book that it was something of a commentary about the ideas of consumerism, and how much we as consumers are willing to pay for the things we feel that we must have. Or maybe I'm looking too much into it. That's always a possibility. The longer I've been away from a book, the more theories I develop about contexts that may or may not really exist.
