Hi everyone.

I'm currently watching a late (ish) documentary on 9/11 called '102 Minutes That Changed America.' I think it provides an important insight into that day from the viewpoints of ordinary New Yorkers. However, I'm appalled at the number of commercial breaks - yet another set interupting the programme every bloody 10 minutes, which is very unusual over here in the UK. Shame on Channel 4 and the advertisers for profitting from other people's misery.

C4 was once a good alternative to other channels, now it's as avericious as they come. In future, the BBC should be left to air this kind of documentary, where there are no advert breaks at all.

Jeez Bad Bear, you certainly appear to be living up to your name there. :wink2:
I watched this documentary.
I personally was glad of the commercial breaks as it gave me a chance to think about what I was witnessing. We have all seen similar footage many time's before, yet that does not make the impact any less shocking and severe.

I am actually quite sensitive and watching these programs affects me greatly, so the adverts are a good chance to compose my feelings. I cried whilst watching this programme and also whilst watching the previous nights show about people's phone calls to their loved one's from the Twin Towers. In fact, I was so very much involved with what I was watching that I barely noticed the ammount of adverts.

The BBC may have no adverts, but they also tend to lack integrity and grit at time's. Something which is very rarely lacking on Channel4.

Commercial breaks seems to be coming closer and closer. Some lasting 4 minutes long with a prime time presentation. Very frustrating, but I expect that the money is needed to pay the actors' salaries. I have heard some get as much as $100,000 (US) per episode. So if I do a little rudimentary math, that could be a huge hunk of change for the whole shebang!

Still very frustrating, I know. But, I keep my book by my side and when the commericals come, I put on the mute button and read away.:biggrin2:

I had the same response, but I think he was talking more about the fact that the commercials are playing during the 9/11 presentation.

My feeling is that it should be one of those "limited commercial interruptions" for this kind of thing, at least for a while because it is still such fresh, unresolved history. Where you get 1 or 2 commercials every half an hour or so. Hell, they do that with Christmas movies so they should at least give a subject like this the same respect.

I haven't watched that, i remember the day to clearly and we all cryed for the people who died and were very upset and sad for the States. I try to respect an remember the day and haven't had the heart to watch any thing about it since. (commercials are terrible i do agree there. Any one watch Opra? Tons during that show.)

Yes, that's what I meant, Nero. Ad breaks are, sadly, part and parcel of commercial television, but I think they should have been kept to a minimum for that programme. I found it very jarring to be pondering on the various aspects of the documentary, only for !BANG! yet more intrusive adverts.

Oh well.

So sorry that I went off in the wrong toot per your original query.

I whole heartedly agree with you that such a sombre historic event should not be interrupted by commercials. Maybe it is considered premium footage.
