Which do you prefer to read out of your collection, and why? Hardback or paperback?

That would be a tough one.
My reading "collection" includes old newspapers so....

I prefer to read a hardback, but I'm no snob, you'll find me reading those paper place mats you find in greasy spoons, diners and truck stops, and those would technically be paperback...though technically, not actually in my collection :umm:......
..and when I come to think on it (I just did:blush:), them there mats, are on a hard table, so........:dunno:?
Yeah, I know, sure does get rather confusing don't it:rolleyes:?

most of mine are paperbacks, unfortunately, though I've been trying to acquire more and more hardbacks as I find them.

I tend to read the paperbacks though, because I have a guilty thing where I'm afraid to ruin a hardback, they're so nice :)

Paperback! Much easier to read when you're snuggled up in bed, and handy to take with you for buses and trains and car journeys!

Paperbacks. I can fit more of them in my limited space.

When I'm off to an appointment or whatnot, I try to grab a paperback. My books are probably 8o+% hardcover.

Joe, you ask the best questions!!!

If, for some reason I have missed the publication of a favorite writer and no hardbacks are available by the time I wake up from my fog, I will eagerly await the paperback for reading.

There are some authors, our gracious host Mr. King in the lead here, there is no way I am going to miss a publ. date, so those books are all hardbacks!!

Hardbacks are easier to handle. They stay open pretty much for the no-hands technique.

With a paperback, I am constantly fighting to keep the two parts of the book open sometimes even causing cramps in my hands which then renders reading IMPOSSIBLE until the pain is gone!! AGH!!!

If I want to read a story, the shape it is in when I find it is how I will read it!

Both are in my collection, but there are more hardbacks. I prefer to read hardbacks, but in some cases where the book is signed or hard to find, etc. I'll read the paperback ... unless I have two hardback copies and then I'll read the hardback that's less valuable.

I don't actually mind either way as the words inside are the same no matter what.
With a hardback I tend to remove the cover when reading though, not to protect it, but for some reason the book always feels nicer in my hands without the cover on.

I like paperbacks, and I dogear like an addict. I like to read in bed, and hardbacks are ridiculously difficult to handle (especially if you're beginning or ending a big one!). Ever been bonked in the forehead by one of those behemoths? Yowch!

Ditto:wink2:!

They feel kinda like snot!

Well you know, like when you grap something, and then feel something, and you just know what it is, but you don't really know...ya know:biggrin2:?

Gives me that same kind of creepy oogy yucko feeling:eek2:...so, that ain't just me right?...right..:umm:?

I have a hard time digearing my books. I use to till I watched FINDING FORRESTER. William said, "you dogeared it! Don't show much respect to the author".

I've always bought the hardbacks. Just feels right in your hands. Then a kindly neighbor decided to hunt yard sales- she has managed to find for me a paperback to match almost all my hardbacks. If it is a long road trip, I'll grab a paperback for on the go.

I prefer hardcovers for my SK collection but like paperbacks to read over and over. In most cases I have a hardcover, paperback, and eBook of each SK work. Paperbacks or Kindle eBooks for everything else.

Most of my collection is made up of paperbacks, but I have a few hardcovers too. It really doesn't matter to me which form it is in. As long as the story is good. That's what matters.

Hardcovers are difficult to handle and to carry, but in some cases ( see It or The Stand) can be used as a fearful deffensive weapon.

I am pretty similar to you. I tend to buy hardbacks to keep on my shelf, and read occasionally (mostly when I don't have the paperback), and paperbacks to carry with me and read over and over. I also tend to take better care of my hardback than my paper backs, but I don't trash them like some people I see.

I am not too fussy. Hardba cks are nice to have at home, but paperbacks are good for traveling. If it is a book I have been wiating for a hardback is hard to resist, though as it usually comes out first

I always take that slippery but oh so beautiful cover off while I am reading the book. It goes right back on when the book goes to the shelf. Can't stand all that slipping and sliding.:oh:

Yes. Both. All books are good with me. Though hardbacks tend to last longer. I have pages taped into paperbacks.

I prefer hardback. mostly because if i read a book that i really enjoy, i will read it several times and the hardcovers last longer. I do have some books in paperback, but not many... ALL of my SK are hardcover. Im sure you know why. :smile2:

My preference is pretty similar to yours also. For my SK collection I like hardcovers, but for rereads I prefer the paperbacks. Any other author, I will buy either the paperback or eBook, unless I get the hardcover for a really good deal.

I would probably have to say paperback because I read so much that when I go on holiday I invariably end up taking 3 books and hardbacks take up more room. Also, falling asleep and being busted in the nose by a hardback is no fun at all!

Oh, and Hi, my name is Kat and I'm new to the board!

Hi,

I only have one hardback, Duma Key, which I (in all honesty) don't care much for. It just looked so out of place with my collection of paperbacks that I went and bought the Duma Key paperback.

Nobody could understand why I did it.

But I did.

I'm orderly.

So I prefer paperbacks, but I'm saving up to buy The Stand, It, and Under the Dome in hardback some time - they're a different case, I love epics!

Hardback. They just look cooler. Haha. I don't own any SK softbacks.

I prefer hardcover, more substance to them i guess. I only have soft cover if i can't get a hold of the hard. Only buy my favorite authors in hardcover. Stephen King has his own shelfs.

i like hardback since with paperback it gets kinda greasy and warpped from holding it open. sadly only two of my king books are hardback since the current paperback covers are much better to me. why can't they put the same cover in both formats?
