As we all know, THE RAFT was collected in SKELETON CREW.
But what about OL' CHIEF WOODENHEAD and THE HITCH-HIKER? I'd love to read these as short stories. I wonder if they're ditched publishing efforts from Sai King that made it to film?

I was just thinking the same thing. I can't find anything about them on wikipedia but maybe another person knows, or perhaps a certain moderator? :wink2:

From what I can find in my research, Steve only wrote the premise and George Romero wrote the actual screenplay. Both had originally been intended for Creepshow but were not used.

It's not exactly the same thing, but the most recent Creepshow 2 DVD does have the screenplay as a DVD-ROM feature. Unfortunately it's a revised screenplay after Pinfall was removed... :(
On a related note, wouldn't it be nice if they published a hardcover 30th anniversary edition of the original Creepshow screenplay that King wrote and maybe even threw in the original short story versions of Weeds and The Crate?

According to an interview with King, back from the mid-80s, he (King) wrote what is called outlines, scenarios or sketches. King wrote these in a notebook, sent it to Romero, who scripted them. Old Chief Wood'head was first attempted as a short story that wasn't finished. The Hitch-Hiker was considered for the first film if They're Creeping Up On You didn't work out, but was never actually scripted. These two tales, plus Pinfall and the wrap-around story were outlined by King, even with some dialogues, but Romero most assuredly added to them as he scripted them.

I had a crush on the "Native American" character with the long hair (hangsheadinshame) lol
