I was just wondering what "ending" of father Callahan did you prefer - the one in Salem's Lot (uncertain one), the one that Mr. King wrote before (it appears in the ""Edited Out" parts at the end of the full version) or the ending in the DT.

Personally I like the good old Fade' and that's why I am indesisive. I like him with a chance of redemption - the way he is at the end of Salems' with all roads opening a head and I like him in the calla - happy and at peace. But while my brothers would no doubt vote for his heroic death at the DT as a fit ending, I personally never saw anything heroic in death, and would rather let his stay in the indefinite chance of a Happy Ever After.

What do you think?

Hi,

Personally I prefer his heroic end in DT.

BTW There's a Salem's Lot re-reading group (or sub-group actually) in the social group 'The Calvins' that you're invited to join, just click on 'Community' above, then 'Social Groups' to find it.

This is a toughie, but I prefer the road to redemption. I think the heroic stand makes for a better scene in 'salem's Lot, but I loved how he picks back up in the Dark Tower and lives up to his potential.

I agree with John on this. His story continuing into DT becomes one of redemption. And I like the character so much that I was glad to see the ending SK provided for him in DT.

I'll go with John on this one. It was awesome to see Father Callahan finally redeem himself after abandoning his faith against Kurt Barlow. (or at least that's how I saw it.)

the one in dt. i think he found a kind of redemption in dt. his end in the lot did not contain that element. he wasn't at peace there. but in the dt ending, he found a kind of peace.

Salem's Lot. I liked the open ending, and I didn't care for the last thee dark tower books at all (although Callahan's story about what he did after the Lot was a highlight).

Gotta go with The Dark Tower finishing of Callahan, after all all things serve the beam. may I ask how Barlow is in the Dark tower books if he was killed in the lot? Did they mention in the Books or not?

Barlow only appears in the Dark Tower books in retrospect, i.e. a back-flash to the confrontation between Callahan and Barlow in Salem's Lot. He daiiiiid.

I loved seeing Father Callahan again in the Dark Tower series. Now I'm looking forward to seeing Jack Sawyer again and Roland! I know we haven't seen the last of those two.

I just posted aq secondary charecters fav thread that was brought on by a reread of dT books--and mainly my love for PEre C in the DT books.

I love his attitude, him speaking down the cowardice of calla folken, and his go for it attitude with no indecision...
