I rediscovered this little gem just recently and was quite amazed at the relevance to the present state of humanity. The state of our planet and the conciousness which seems to have such a firm grip on our thinking.Bobby's intentions were quite' Messiah like 'but in the guise of the scientist it had to lead to disaster. At least he saved the planet.Take care of the water. I love this story. It's sad but one of my favorites from this collection. :smile2:

and this story, like running man, has an instance of eery premonition--'bout 5-6 pages into the story, 'that was 2003, the year a PLO splinter group called the Sons of the Jihad (a name that always sounded to me hideously like a Catholic community service group somewhere in western Pennsylvania [woo-woo-woo!]) set off a Squirt Bomb in London....'

REALLY liked this story... I know SK is a fan of HP lovecraft and this story is taken right out of Lovecrafts playbook. Lovecraft loved to write from the view of a person that had witnessed or done something awful and was on the verge or madness, suicide, or both.

I have to agree. A sleeper of a gem of a story. Sad, poignant, but beautiful in its own way. It made me think, were humans really ever meant to live in Eden?

I didn't really get into this story too much, i wasn't compelled like i am usually by King's work. There's nothing wrong with the story, not alot happening for me though! Plus it had a pretty difficult act to follow with Dolan's Cadillac!
