Hello, Mr. King,
My name is Devon W. and I am a 17 year old Senior in High School
I just wanted to Thank you for being such a great inspiration to me. Because of that book, On Writing: The memoir of The Craft, I have finally been able to continue the first draft of a manuscript I'm working on. After several failed attempts I am coming close to finishing one.
I should be done with it by the end of the month, on my Birthday I am hoping and I have a good feeling about this novel. Before I read your book and the parts with Door open, Door Closed, I would show people what I've written...I guess you could say self doubt did creep in. But i'm thinking the reason I could really finish this time was because I've had so many good reviews on some of what I had. I felt like it was really good. And I used to show people what I had before I even finished my first draft. And when I felt my writing was no good and when i'd get the first hint of rejection, i'd give up...But of course you probably know all about the writing art and how I felt. I don't do that anymore, my goal is to out run self doubt, and that is what I've been doing.
Anyways, I just want to thank you for that wonderful book. It really touched me to be honest. It was one of my favorite's and I felt you were right there the whole time talking to me, telling me what I should do, and I am following everything you've told me, so I can become a good writer.
When I finish writing this book, i'd be honored if you read it once it's published or if it gets published. I think you might like it. I know you are a very busy man, so I don't expect a reply, but I would really like one if you could.
