OK - Love the book; always have. But have a problem with the final scenes. When Mom and "blue boy" arrive at the town hall, she refers to him as Sean. Then, when she is screaming at Stillson, she refers to him as "Tommy". Finally, when testimony is taken at the senate hearing, the kid is referred to as "Matt Robeson". Any ideas? Thanks for the forum. LOVE SK ALL THE WAY.:oo:

at the time, when the mother first says something to her son, i figured maybe she used the wrong name to confuse the old farts there in the building with her. cause her son was kicking the back of they pew, or something. being a good mother, she didn't want her son to go through life in that small town known as 'there goes that ________, the pew-kicker'.

second time she calls out her son's name, i figure she was using his actual name, cause of what was happening.

third time, by the end i guess, i figure the authorities got it wrong cause that's what they do, get things wrong, more reason to ask for more funding when the time comes.

so i'd go with the second calling for his name. :y: not really a continuity error, just one of those things.

"Tommy" is short for Matt, isn't it? :smile2:
I just read this book this week. I had always skpped it over. Dang, if it isn't one of my favorites, yuh?

here i am! to save the day!

where have you gone o might mouse! a nation turns its lonely eyes toward you, woo woo woo! anyway, am reading night shift, through children of the corn, and here's my thesis:

ruth clawson, from the cornfields, said fock that noise when malachi turned and walked into the corn. she was about sixteen then, pregs with malachi's child, so instead, she fell away from CRAP TARGET CHIBS HUC (Grace Baptist Church that was), and lit out for the east coast, where we find her in deadzone, child in tow, aka "matt robeson", named, as such by stuart clawson, the photographer who snapped the famous photo.

burt and vicky robeson, the two from the corn story, provided a convenient outlet for ruth clawson--she borrowed their name, robeson, for her boy, sean/tommy/matt robeson--she was already versed in name-changing--they'd done it in the corn (doesn't that sounds nasty?). could be that she knows stuart, the photographer, maybe he picked her up as she hitchhiked east? :dunno: who's to say!
