I got Dreamcatcher as a gift and I am ashamed to say that I did not even know it was out. Anyway I read it with relish. Had just moved in to a house and one night started hearing noise from the attic. Boy did it ever start screeching and I just knew it was going to break through the bedroom and "get me" LOL Just gotta Love KING

Hi guys :smile2:.
Loved the book...HATED the movie.
Possibly the biggest disappointment I have ever felt in an adaptation.
I had extremely high expectations for the movie, and sadly they all fell flat.
The only redeeming feature the movie had was the presence of Morgan Freeman IMO, and even he couldn't save it.

I really liked the book and have bought the film, just need to find time to watch it. I heard quite mixed reviews of the film so will be interesting to see how the book translates to film. Some do better than others IMO.

I enjoyed the book - not my favorite of Mr. King's books, but it was a fine reading. But the movie... I didn't like it AT ALL. But hey, such is often the case with book adaptations, right?

The book wasn't great IMO, but it was okay. At least I could finish the book. I couldn't even make it to the end of the movie.

I loved the book and the movie. I always enjoy reading the book before I watch the movie, sometimes it can be a spoiler but I find most of the time it is a pleasant surprise when the charactera truly come to life in a movie.

I have a collection of books and movies written and produced by Mr. King. Mr. King's talent has yet to be surpassed in imagination and thrills. Mr. King crosses many barriers that other authors fear to write about or think they are taboo so they only tip toe around it; however, Mr. King stomps on taboo and writes what his imagination dictates. Some things I may not agree with Mr. King on but, I respect him and admire his work.

I also loved the book. I must admit I'm a bit behind on my King reading also. He's hard to keep up with.

I haven't seen the movie yet. Maybe I'll rent it one day. The book had a strange effect on me. It gave me nauseas at times, but it was very interesting plot. I must say that I have a collection of dreamcatchers at home, being part breed. I even wrote a multi segment novel in which I included a dreamcatcher story. Not as scary as SK's. I don't write horror. I have read the book in just 2 days, because I really wanted to see it end. LOL!!!:biggrin2:

I loved the book, the movie kinda lacked in production values and the ending was just WRONG, but it did make me laugh. So in retrospect I gotta admit I enjoyed the movie too.

I haven't read the book, so I can't say anything about it, but I liked the movie. The movie seemed rushed, and for everything that seemed to leave holes in the plot, I can look forward to reading a book that fills in more details.

I Duditz! Surprisingly good. I was expecting something different because I didn't read this story, but the previews made me think they were being hunted by Jason Vorhees or something. It was a nice surprise.

Honestly, I've never read or seen the movie. But my fiance LOVES the movie. He says it's his all time favorite movie by Stephen King. ^-^

The movie was terrible. The ending was ridiculous and Kurtz was not nearly mean enough. My favorite character is Beaver.

The ending did suck dudits turning into a big worm-like alien. That sucked. That was not in the book. Hollywood!:oo:

My one question about both the book and movie is this: What is with Beaver and those toothpicks? In the bathroom scene when the weasle is in the toilet and he's keeping the lid down, he seemed so desperate to reach them when they were knocked to the ground. What's going on there?

Hi Fang,Beaver had a obsession-compulsion with chewing toothpicks. It was mentioned when they were four and when they were five also. He chewed those toothpicks whenever he was excited or stressed. Sitting on the toilet and waiting for (was it Jonsey??) to return with the duct tape was highly stressful, considering what kept bumping the underside of the lid....not a SSDD!

The book is far better than the movie. The movie leaves out so much of the backstory that is necessary to fully understand Duddits, Henry, Pete, Jonesy and the Beaver and their special relationship.
The book is hilarious in the beginning and then it gets darker and darker, reaching a crescendo of terror and pain.
The movie is a mess IMHO.

I love Beaver's creative curses. He hake me laugh until I cry.

To me the book & the movie are very different. So much so I feel like its better maybe to not read book if you're going to see the movie. I liked the book much better--the movie was 'uhh-ok.' It was hard for me to see Morgan Freeman in the role of a ghostly-pale white man (remember references to his white eyelashes?) Course Freeman did an excellent job regardless.....jus sayin.:cool2:

OK movie fans. I just finished watching Dreamcatcher. First off you have to realize that I am a huge movie fan. I'd rather watch a movie than anything else. There are not too many I don't like. This one was alright in my book. Sure they took liberties. Don't they always. The ending was way different but not in a bad way. I agree that it was hard to see Morgan Freeman playing a "bad" guy of sorts. He's one of my favorite actors. As I was watching I started remember this and that from the book. Now I haven't read this book in probably 5 or 6 years but it was easy to remember what was going to happen next while watching the movie. The bathroom scene always made me cringe. :wow: That's a good thing. All in all, I enjoyed it a lot, odd ending and all.

Brilliant book loved The original title but could see the reason for changing it (agreed with Tabitha on that one sadly) i thought the Film was a good adaption but as with all books to movies i do find reading a book you get a more vivid mental picture of the story and im a book worm any rate .. I hate seeing films before reading the story as i find you loose the excitement of the ending

I watched this movie again a few weeks ago, there wasn't much else on TV so I figured "why not?"

It's been a long time since I read the book, so this time around I judged the movie more on it's own merits and surprisingly I did enjoy it.
Not the best adaptation but I've definitely seen a lot worse. Guess what I'm trying to say is: I retract my original statement about how awful it was.

Hollywood almost always fails to get the atmosphere right.

The movie's actually really good for the first half...then it tries to do way too much in way too short a timespan in the last forty minutes.

i liked the movie alot. the actor playing mr. grey did an amazing job, and just the way they shot it . . . . i liked the book alot too , but i tried reading it to calm down when having an intense "time" and i thought i was making my thoughts go down on paper,,, and just as i was convincing myself that couldnt be the case , i got to the "jesus christ bananas" line and i freaked out.... funny now not then

Have the book but havn't gotten to it in my next-to-read list just yet. Have the movie, very funny. Great cast. i wouldn't change anybody. Did i mention it was funny? scary-NO, but very entertaining. A little hokey, but that's most of King based movies. that's what makes it fun to watch. i'm sure it will be an interesting read, considering the previous reads compared to it's movies from King.

I really liked the book, and my nerves were definitely firing when the s**t weasel was in the toilet.

The movie was a big disappointment. Even my crush on Jason Lee couldn't save it.

It was an okay movie, but when you compare it to the book it was a friggin' s*%t weasel.
Especially the ending. It was just goofy.

I loved this book,it reminded me of IT so much, especiallywhen the're kids and they save "Duddits" from the bullies

I also love the concept of one of the character's (can't remember his name at the moment)memory being like a library, and locking his important memories in a store cupboard
