I haven't yet read the short story (I think it's included in "Skeleton Crew", right? I have that book, have yet to read it, though), but I absolutely loved the movie. I'm sure I will probably like the short story better when I do read it (I tend to like the books better than their film adaptions), but just judging it AS IS, I loved it. One of my all time favorite horror movies.

The Mist is one of the best Stephen King adaptations I've yet seen. The ending was absolutely perfect and had one of the bleakest endings I've ever seen in a movie. For my money, Frank Darabont should be give first dibs on every SK adaptation from now on.

i like the book and this is a great adaptation, really good

I've read the short story, and I must say (here it goes...) I liked the movie better. The Short story is very good but I like what Frank made with the base..you know the characters are easier to relate to , and many other things, plus the ending...I mean in any other flick, that kind of ending would make me say 'now come on..are you serious?' but here I was like...wow...Loved the picture, one of my favs

I loved The Mist, too. It was never one of my favorite stories, but seeing the movie made me re read it and I enjoyed it more the second time around. I thought the movie ending was much better than the stories The Bids ending. Darabont is the MAN!

Just finished reading the short story yesterday, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I liked the movie far better. I thought a lot of the changes that were made were excellent decisions, such as making David NOT cheat on his wife (that part in the book just angered me) and making him have some of the most critical ideas. He also seemed more courageous in the movie, it seemed. I also loved how the movie was more focused around Carmondy's influence, and how many of the lines were changed to different individuals. It created a sort of forboding feeling almost from the start. She felt more tacked-on in the book. And I just love how one particular scene was added at the right time. I wasn't particularly fond of the ending to the book, so I'm glad that got changed. The ending the movie just felt RIGHT. Well...not RIGHT, but you know what I mean. Lol.

This is very rear to me: I haven't read the story, but I saw the movie. The movie really is great, and I guess I have to read the story too, though I've never been a big fan of short stories, as a form of literature.

I watched the movie a couple of days ago. It's great according me. And very sad, it brings up alot of emotions like anger, hate and grief.
I give the movie
8/10

I loved this movie too. It's weird how a lot of his novels, turned in to movies, are portrayed just like I imagined them as I read the book. How uncanny. :wow:

For me The Mist is one of the best short stories by SK. When I red the storie 2 years ago I was thrilled also especially by the open end, I could give my fancy full scope. it fired my imagniation. I think the movie is great, except the stupid end? For that matter I was dissapointed by the movie.

I loved the story and just saw the movie for the first time. I was shocked at the ending. After thinking about it, it was cool as it wasn't expected.
(My husband gets upset with me because I drag him to SK movies. He likes most of them, but didn't like Cujo and Pet Sematary. He just added The Mist to the movies he didn't like.)

This is one of my favorite SK short stories, I have read it many times. The movie was amazing, Frank is the man, but I have to admit, I was so shocked by the ending. I have a son just a little younger than Billy, and was not expecting that to happen. I was also 8 months pregnant with my second, and probably a little hormonal. Have become more sensitive to violence since having children. I have always found the ending of the story satisfying, but i suppose it is too much of an ambigious ending for the movie going public.

I actually didn't like this movie at all...I love the novella a lot but this movie really was bad. It's too bad cause Darabont is a great filmmaker. He should have cast the movie better, more character depth, different ending (preferably the original King version), the CGI shots looked like "CGI shots."

I disagree. I think the movie was better than the story. The ending for the story was just weird and Darabont's idea was a good one. Even Sai King himself has said that had HE thought of that ending while writing the story, he would have written it that way.

I agree that The Mist is a very great movie and so was the book. I thought the ending was weird in the movie.

I absolutely loved the film but after what happened in the car near the end, I kind of saw the rest of it coming. Brilliant film though and I'm glad David didn't cheat on his wife in the film.

You may want to check your local Wal-Mart. The other day, I picked up blu-rays of The Mist and 1408 that were bundled as a 2 pack for $15.

I watched The Mist last night on blu-ray and thought it was excellent. You can't say this movie had your typical hollywood ending. SK and the director were talking about the movie on one of the bonus features and they were talking about the ending. SK was fine with that ending in the movie and I got the impression that he really liked this movie. The ending of the movie isn't really that different from the book if you consider the part in the book that is at the start of the last chapter when the people have left the store and are getting in the SUV. After they got in, David opened the door back up and picked up Ollie's gun off the ground. He saw that there were four bullets left and he said (or thought) something like, if it comes to it, there are enough bullets for the passengers and I'll take care of myself some other way. So, SK could have very well ended the book like the movie if he had kept the story going for another day.

Hey All,
I believe I read this story a long long time ago when I was in my early 20's and can't remember a thing about it. I know I had the book Skeleton Crew, but this story is not ringing a bell. I saw they made a movie out of it, it kinda reminds me of THE FOG, I luved those movies, both the original and re-make:eek2:. Those were both kinda creepy movies, if the movie is anything like The Fog I should like it. Could any1 give me a synopsis of it, I would appreciate it:grinning:.

Just had to post in here. I know the movie has been out for a long while now, but...
I was very disappointed with it. It was bland. It lacked a lot of character development, especially with the wife and son in the beginning and also their relationship with their not so friendly neighbor.
The CGI was terrible. It would have been much better had they gone with Stan Winston old school effects and left much more to the imagination.
I thought the ending was terrible. Why not just leave it the way King wrote it...? He made it so the ending wasn't neatly tied up. He left it an unknown and that's the way it should have stayed.
And lastly... It's my opinion that these King adaptations should all be done in the period they were written. I can't put my finger on exactly why I think this is important, but it is.
I guess I'm kind of critical because this is my favorite King story. When I'm in between books or just want to read something really good, I always go back to The Mist. No exaggeration... I think I've read it over 20 times, perhaps even more than that.
Great SK Movies

The movie was well done. Even though I have never read the book, I want to. It is one of my favourite movies from my day.(this movie came out when i was 14.) I remember seeing it for the first time at 1 am in the morning on a dark stormy night. Unfortunately, I had some trouble sleeping.

I first read the short story when i was fourteen and in hospital with apendicitis :eek2: the nurses came over and asked what i was reading, when they realised it was stephen king they kinda left me alone
it helped me to forget what a ****** situation i was in, and gave me a good laugh at the nurses reaction.
As for the film being better, i dont think it is either better or worse, just different.
I have to say though, the ending of the film made me smile.
truly twisted, genius
