Purple Grass to Red Rose?

Hi all. I'm brand new to the group and this looks like a great place!

I recently got my hands on a copy of the Gunslinger pre-revision and while reading it, I noticed that, initially, King had plans for the Tower being a single blade of purple grass instead of a red rose. Also, in the afterword, he mentions the idea that Roland's world being a molecule in a dying weed in a cosmic vacant lot. I realize that the story has changed and evolved (hence the revision), but I was wondering if anyone knew if King had specifically said why he decided to make the change?

Sorry, can't help ya there. I sorta fell into it. My aunt had bought it when it first came out and let me have it when I told her how much I loved the series (she loves King, but never got into the Tower).
