I have been a reader of s.k. For 20 years. I wish i would have started reading the dark tower series as they were published, that way i would have understood the references made to it from his other novels.

I got hooked with The Gunslinger. I cant believe there are huge fans who have not read the series. For me it reveals so much about the world we are dealing with when reading Mr. King.

I made a conscious decision not to read the series until it was completed. I feel like I was better connected to the story because of all the things I knew from SK's previous books that connected to the tower. For example, I was so excited when I discovered that when Ted Braughtigan (sic?) disappeared in "Hearts in Atlantis" it was because he was a breaker! Very exciting for a geek like me!

I read it very VERY late. The first DT book wasn't at all to my taste and the second one nearly made me give up the whole series. Finally I did get to it and enjoyed it immensely, but I was actually happy I read it last - I understood most of the connotation because the other books served as references.

I can't imagine reading Wolves of the Calla without having read 'Salem's Lot.

I picked up The Gunslinger, never having heard of the book before, and was hooked from the first few lines. I've read a number of Stephen King books ('Salem's Lot, Hearts in Atlantis, The Regulators, Skeleton Crew, among others), and was amazed how they all tied together. So much so, that I absolutely could not wait to finish and find out what happened in the end.
