With the Talisman, the Stand and the Dark Tower all having comic books based around them does anyone else think there's other King titles that would make successful comics? Personally I think Cell would be a good one, even going deeper into the book like maybe following the others like Jordan and Tom as they travel or other survivors. Any one else got a suggestion?

Hi,

Well if they're up to the standards of the ones released so far, I would say all of them, and I certainly agree about Cell!

Cell, for sure.

Also Desperation and The Regulators.

Cell definitely.

I think 'Salem's Lot would make a pretty good comic book. There's a lot of history already there, and the ending was rather open ended in regards to the fate of the town. Good stuff to explore outside of the book.

I've been very disappointed in the graphic novel version of The Stand. Not because of the quality of the artwork, but because it's the same story (although obviously shortened) as the novel. I just want NEW stories. For this reason, I doubt that I'll be getting The Talisman.

Idk why, but a Pet Sematary series that maybe reiterates the originsl story and then goes further? I agree with the Cell, Desperation and Regulators ideas, those would all make good comics. Also maybe some short story comic collections, like a series that does 1 or 2 issues for each short story?

Other novels: Dreamcatcher, Lisey's story (maybe go beyond the story, i.e. Adventures in Boo'ya Moon?) and maybe Duma Key, since it has the whole art-thing going anyways.

I agree alot with John, I think that all of King's stories would make great comics (I love comics!), but especially a few of them.

I think Cycle of the Werewolf would be the perfect adaptation, judging by the nature of the story. It's also one of King's least known works, so that in itself would create interest in such an adaptation.

I know Nat said Regulators, but what about another Bachman novel? Something like Long Walk or Running Man?

Secretary of Dreams seems to have the short stories-territory... But what about HIA? The first two stories can be at least six issues, Blind Willie about four, Why We're in Vietnam the same number, and Heavenly Shades could be a one-shot

Another vote for Cell.

I think that Liscey's story would be awesome! Seeing Boo ya moon in graphic novel form would be very scary! (Jae Lee should definitively be the artist for this one!) Also I think that Duma Key would be great also. I would love to see full color pages of the paintings in the book.

Yes, Firestarter and Cycle of the Werewolf would both kick butt as a comic.

I was going to say the Talisman/Black House series, but one of the previous posts implied that's happened already. I think you could make a decent comic out of any of the Short Stories where he rote as Bachman. You could do the same with books like "Nightmares and Dreamscapes", "Everything's Eventual," or my favorite "Different Seasons." From the "Apt Pupil" story in "Different Seasons" you could make an entire run just off of the stories the boy had the Nazi tell him - even do some good from it and send the proceeds as dedications to the Holocaust memorial in DC or to the victims and families themselves. As for a Dark Tower run *spoiler alert for the books" you could make a Tower series from where the story restarts at the end of book 7. The nice thing about King's work, where he was inspired from horror comics and horror short stories, his work sort of lends itself to be made into comics.

Hi,

Yes, it does indeed.

But I feel that with five separate monthly titles running at the moment we're in danger of overkill already.

I think a collection of King's old pulp short stories told in the style of a "Creepshow" type of comic would be a lot of fun. Most of the stuff from "Night Shift" would work.

There are 5? I was only aware of the Dark Tower series being released by marvel, and it's all I've seen at the book stores here (Barnes & Nobel, Books-a-million). I'm interested in the others if you don't mind listing them.

Check out this page (http://www.stephenking.com/promo/ipt/works/american_vampire.html) for all of the comic series that are out now.

Hi,

Ah, it's time to find your local comic book store, bookshops generally only stock the compendium hardbacks.

And thankee for the link, Ms Mod, I was going to say DT, The Stand, The Talisman, N and American Vampire.

As a consumer and Cujo-rabid fan of King, I have gotten all the series so far-up to and including "N". I also have said before, and will stick to my guns(pun intended), that Marvel needs to wrap a series or two up before launching anything else-coz it gets damned expensive trying to keep up with them all, and might discourage some from collecting or reading them at all because they're simply overwhelmed by choices. If they do limit the runs and wrap a couple first-I would like to see "It" adapted.

I agree that five series (es) at one time is enough... but 99& of the comics I buy are from a used book store that keeps a couple of shelves of comics for 0.50 each, so it's the luckof the draw for me, whatever turns up on the shelves. I can't afford to go to a comic store and set up a pull list or anything like that...

There are parts of Tommyknockers that I think have TONNES of visual potential, scenes that would look really hot in graphic form, especially with the fancy photoshop coloring and high gloss printing that modern books are blessed with. Think of the dog in the garage, floating in that cylinder of green goop... or the little kid that got "magicked" to the cold empty planet...

We all floatd down here.

I think The Mist woukd make a great comic adaptation. I'd also like to see I am the Doorway, and Jerusalem's Lot in comic format. Oh, and the Little Sisters of Euluria would be a fun one shot, or short arc.
In terms of novels I think that The Dark Half, Cujo, The Shining, Salem's Lot, Black House, and Cell would be cool.

I agree, particularly the ones from the Castle Rock series.

I agree with the previous posts going for "Salem's Lot" and "The Mist". There's always the fear of the unknown and they'd both have it different ways. In Salme's lot there'd be nice daylight scenes then plenty of dark dark night scenes with maybe a hint of what is concealed in the darkness. For "The Mist" the artists can have a field day hiding so much in the washed out white/grey of the mist.
Possibly above these I'd love to see "Needful Things". I think the artwork already seen for Trash Can Man shows a delerious craziness that would be perfect for the "good" people of Castle Rock succumbing Gaunt's influence.

I was just thinking about this today and came here and saw this thread even though it is old thought I would add my two cents. Looking at the new art work for the re-released special edition of IT made me think that this would make a great graphic novel and easy to do (except for one scene that may have to be excised and I think we all know what that scene is). I would love to see an artist representation of Derry, Pennywise, the Loser's Club and so many others. To see drawn, Beverly's frightening encounter with Mrs. Kersh, or Pennywise in her true form, or the fire at the Black Spot, would be amazing. It is something I would definitely have to own.
