I thought it might be fun to discuss Steve's articles in Entertainment Weekly. So, we will test it out. :)
This weeks article is called, "My Screen Addiction." It got me thinking about my screen addiction and if I indeed have one. I found that it was somewhat of a catch 22 for me. My work involves staring at a computer most of the hours at work, so does that count? I think it does, in part. Then I thought about my cell phone and texting and so that adds to my "screen time". Steve doesn't have a cell phone, so that doesn't add to his screen time. If I add in TV!!! Oh man, 7 hours at work, texting and TV. I'm probably logging 10 hours a day in electro-screen-glow...:glare:. I do facebook, but I don't twitter, and this SKMB thing sucks me in. I too have an info crutch called Google. I Google darn near everything! I may be in denial, but I don't think I have an addiction. If it came down to it, I could walk away, I think...
So, how much screen time do you log a day? Do you think you have an addiction?

Way too much.:glare: An addiction? Yes.

Per day? Obviously it depends. It's going to be a lot, though - 8 hours on PC alone. I don't have a mobile so that saves me some there, but I do watch a lot of sport (depending on season, fixtures, etc) and films. I'd say, on average, I'd log about 12 hours. I do know, though, that on a heavy day it'd be as much as 15 and on a light one, it's likely to still be around 9 or 10.

Well, I try to keep the internet and tv/movie use to about 3 hours a day. I try to read the other time until I go to bed.
On weekends, I can find myself on here for hours, or I may not even use it. It all depends on my mood, but I can easily find myself transfixed.
I haven't been on the SKMB as much as before, I've been busier than usual. But I try to at least log on once a day. :biggrin2:

Hmmm, I'd say probably a total of 12 hours or so a day screen time. On weekends I try to limit it to about 4 or 5 hours a day, if that. But I often walk away for days at a time and refuse all things screeny. A couple years ago I went screenless (completely) for about eight months and really enjoyed it. But it's hard to stay offline for any length of time these days, for various reasons. I may skip a week now and then but I think, long-term, I'm stuck with the necessity of it. Addicted? No. Appreciative? Yes.

I watch TV and watch movies/dvd's about 3 hours a day. Then I am on the internet about 2 hours a day. I don't know if I am "addicted" to the screen. I think I spend time on the internet because I am addicted to Stephen King books and comics. I order and go on message boards because of my SK addiction.
While I was working on a cash register I had to stare at a computer screen for 8 hours a day. Then when I would come home I would hate to go on the computer because my eyes would be so tired and hurt so bad. I would much rather read books than stare at any type of screen.

Yeah, probably at least 12 hours. 8 hours at work, plus cell phone and TV. Even when I'm reading, the TV is usually on. I'm pretty good at zoning out and can read just about anywhere (unless the book sucks).

Don't think I'm addicted but it's so hard to not go on at all. I was actually talking about this to Autumnlyn this morning. I would say I spend about 2 hours a day for the computer and about 1 hour for the TV.
Jen, would Ms. Mod let us post copies of the articles in Entertainment Weekly in this thread??? I never get that mag, and would love to be able to read them!!

Hmmm. Doc's link didn't work. I am not sure if we could post the articles. Probably an infringement of some kind? They are really great articles. I was able to get 52 magazines on their website for $25. Not bad if you ask me! That's less than 50 cents an issue!

I think we'd be violating Steve's contract with EW if we posted them here other than by linking to their web site.

Not sure why the link doesn't resolve. But you can go to ew.com and hit the Contributors link up top. There you will see SK. Under his pic there is a link that says "see all by this author' and you will get the page I tried to link to.

No.
I`m not addicted.
A human being really only needs to eat, sleep and go to the bathroom.
Without everything else we can do.
And, yeah, well, there`s the ice cold beer on a hot summer day...:biggrin2:

SO, this week had Rob Pattinson on the cover of EW!! I thought, "Oh great, what will Steve think about this weeks issue?" Well, he didn't write an article this week, which I thought was fitting since Stephanie Meyer and Twilight/New Moon were splashed all over the place! :glare: I don't know if this was by choice or time constraints or other things. Maybe Ms. Mod knows why, maybe not?
I did love the Vampire issue and, overall, thought it was pretty good. Lastat from Interview with a Vampire took 1st place and Barlow from Salem's Lot took 8th. I was glad to see that Edward from Twilight took 4th, not 1st! Hopefully, Uncle Steve will be back next week! :D

He doesn't do weekly columns. They're usually spaced about 3 weeks apart and the last one was the week before this.

Oh come on Srbo! He's right. It actually never disappoints...if you're expecting a sappy, sort of true, love story with not so great acting.
And that's a great list! I've actually seen most of them.

Just my online time. I do not watch television or use a cell phone...unless I am going somewhere and I need the contact and the access for safety...in an emergency.
I like to dawdle at the puter...but I have a life and I use it in short spurts.

Between work and Call of Duty on XBOX I'd say I spend 10 - 12 hours a day. Weekends are much less...I'd say 4 -5 hours on those two days. I hate it that it is this much. I have 3 kids and only play vid games after they are asleep. I guess my wife get's really little hang out time with me. I think I just realized a problem??? The sad thing is I wish I read more but there is just not enough time in a day to do it all. Unless I did not work...that would be good and I could better balance out things. Excuses, excuses right?

ah! ah! ah! ah! stayin' alive! stayin' alive! snicker. dunno about one of the posts, earlier. said to go to ew.com, click on the contributors link at the top. went there, moseyed around a bit. that demon movie looks good, from 1958. was curious if sk actually writes a column for ew. came across a pile of them in the lone wolf hair den whilst waiting to be called, a big malamute lying on the floor. i've yet to see an actual article. there weren't any articles in the stack in the cardboard box at the wolf. didn't see a "contributors" link. well you can tell by the way i walk i'm a woman's man, ah! ah! ah! ah! stayin' alive! I think most of my screen-time goes to Twittering on my cell phone. I normally post a tweet every couple hours unless the day has been partciularly boring. Of course it only takes five minutes to post a tweet and then I'm back off. I watch TV with my mom at night, but that's just because I like to spend time and laugh with my mom. Oh yeah, and let us not forget that I spend about four to six hours a day at my computer writing, so that is a huge chunk of time. All things considered, I probably spend about six to seven hours a day looking at a screen. That happens to be about the same amount of time I spend each day looking at pages in a book. It really does work out nicely, doesn't it?

Between tv and the computer, (counting the time I spend writing or doing work) I can log in a good 10-15 hour day. That's more television than internet, since I can multi task while watching tv.

Oh wow, my 'screen' time is waayyy up there. My computer is in the living room where I can watch TV and be online at the same time- bad! Also, I Facebook on the computer and also on my phone- also bad. I also play games on my phone because it's more portable- very bad. I have no idea how much time that all adds up to, but it's probably pretty high.

The only time I don't have screen time is when I'm asleep. I'm a file formatter for a living (currently) and when I'm not at work, I'm home either working on my novel, surfing the internet or watching t.v.

On work days I spend about 10 hours logged on and mainly on this site. I flitter back to Facebook on occasion and may read a little or rent a movie but don't watch t.v. at all.
On Wednesdays (WEW!) I try to stay in SKT as much as I can to get the most points(haha) and to keep the game alive. So that's more like 15-17 hrs logged on. My hubby & son know when it's Wednesday, they're actually starting to fend for themselves. Hey, this teaches them independence! ;)
On Sept 19th at 11:19pm(EST) I'll draw a name from the list of visitors that came by SKT and one lucky winner will receive Esquire's mag with SK's story, "Morality". Hope to see you there!

:umm: In the 1950s they used to do that subliminally to get snacks at Drive- in Movies. I wonder if they do that in a similar way today! If they do, fat free would be better.

Over the weekend, I read Stephen's current EW article. I am shocked, SHOCKED! I tell you that Tabitha King did not like Forrest Gump.
Despite what she thought, life is like a box of choklits. Oh sure, chocolates are supposed to be sweet (and we wish life was always sweet), but the truth of the matter is, just because something looks like it's going to be sweet and dee-lish doesn't mean it's going to be. Frankly, I've bit into lots of choklits that downright sucked. There it is, that dark little nub of chocolate looking so perfect and then I bite into it and...ICK! there's some godawful hazelnut crap inside; or, that white pasty cream crap that is so sweet, it makes your teeth hurt. (Reminiscent of, but not quite the same texture as that glob of goo, PEEPS.)
Just because something comes in a pretty, yummy, "sweet" looking package does not make it automatically a winner. Bad choklits lie in wait in every Whitman's Sampler out there on the market. Believe me, I've managed to sink my teeth into them all.
Life is like a box of chocolates Mrs. King. We're all hoping for the sweet, but oftentimes, that hazelnut is "sittin' there waitin', just like a spider." *shiver*

Hi,
Haven't read it yet, Deej, (could someone please post a link?) but I wondert if Tabby's feelings could be partly down to the fact that Forrest Gump (which I like BTW) pipped Shawshank to a deserved Oscar that year , I believe.
Long days and pleasant nights

I spend way too many hours online...but fortunately, I'm not a "phone" person..
I hate being "trapped" (that's how phones can make me feel) so for me it's all business..so i don't have to add that to my screen time..
Twittering bores me..and Facebook works for some notifications and keeping up with some old friends..but I only check it out periodically..
I work online in the graphics industry..
and then I belong to an Audio club..not necessarily audiobooks but concerning all things audio..
audio drama..horror..sci fi...BBC stuff..graphic audio...and then the current free stuff you might find online..like the zombie podcast "We're Alive" or "19 Nocturne blvd.."
I listen to audio drama rather than watch tv most of the time..or read books..
But I probably, between work and other interests, spend about 10-12 hours online a day..
