What a great story... weird thing is that it came true outside of Alaska:

Even down to just bones being found inside of it! Weird stuff.

There's a story on the anchorage daily news website (I don't have a high enough post count to post a link so google is your friend) about a Huge blob floating in the Arctic..

Apparently there's a blob of "goo" that is floating around alaska and no one knows what the hell it is...

Here's a quote from the Story: "Nobody knows for sure what the gunk is, but Petty Officer 1st Class Terry Hasenauer says the Coast Guard is sure what it is not.

"It's certainly biological," Hasenauer said. "It's definitely not an oil product of any kind. It has no characteristics of an oil, or a hazardous substance, for that matter.

"It's definitely, by the smell and the makeup of it, it's some sort of naturally occurring organic or otherwise marine organism."

I guess the kids that died on the raft in Creep Show were just the beginning... it does beg the question...

"Do you love??" ... hehe..

Creepshow 2 anyone? The Blob. Even looks the same. Iam staying out of Alaskan waters.

This was an awesome short story. Apart from the Mist my fave from this collection.
Interesting read about Alaskan waters, everyone, lol

Yeah I loved this story, along with survivor type, beachworld, the monkey, and a few others.

Skeleton Crew was the first Stephen King book I ever read years ago.
The horror of The Raft stuck with me like nothing else ever has.

I had a fear of water before The Raft, but this story gave me a fear of what lies under the water- The things that we know are there- but we can't see them. It's that kind of fear where you catch your breath and hold it tight. The knowing and the unknowing gnaw at my insides.
Dang! I love that feeling now! Its one of those things that make me feel ALIVE !
A self-induced electrical jolt to get the ole ticket going.

I have no doubt that the 'Alaskan biological goo' is looking for some over-sexed teenagers to chow down on.

Long days and pleasant nights.

I just read this story for the first time. I saw Creepshow 2 around 6-7 years ago and finally got to read the story. Creepy stuff! Kind of creepy to read about the Alaskan goo too. Thankfully no one's dead over there yet :-)

That part where Deke got pulled thru the planks in the wood was rough. Loved the story

This was easily one of my favorite stories from Skeleton Crew. I watched Creepshow 2 a couple of weeks after finishing it, and I thought the adaptation was pretty good too. Anyone know if they ever figured out what the Alaskan goo was?

Awesome story; if I'd been on that raft, I'd've probably tried to just break my own neck or something.

Ah, for a cell phone...

I liked the part when the two kids decided that being in a very real danger of dying was the perfect time to "get it on." Haha, but then again, fear does some weird things to people. :oo:

Yikes, reality really DOES imitate art...and people wonder why I give any body of water the hairy eyeball....

Remember the movie called "The Blob"? Seeing numerous deaths there, I could easily imagine what happened to the couple. I bet the "Blob" was from where Stephen King got the idea.

(the first two versions of The Blob was a pile of turd, yet the 1985 remake is absolutely fantastic)

I just finished The Raft for the first time and I think it ruined me for any water activities in the near future haha!

That was one crazy story. Havent seen it on film yet but will soon. That girl Laverne was so stuck up. I was glad to see her go. Felt bad for Becky though.

I was dying of laughter when I read the note about this one at the end of the book. Picturing SK driving around hammered stealing every traffic cone he could find and then getting arrested for it is classic. His fine being the same amount that Adam mag paid him for this story just tops it off.

I might be wrong, but I'm thinking that amorphous glob had something to do with it. Might release some endorphin along with its kaleidoscope effect that cause unnatural feelings of lust and longing. When they looked directly at it they feel draw to it, without looking at it you still might get caught up in that feeling and direct it towards the nearest person. Great tactic to get people to let their guard down.

Also this is the only way I make sense of the "Do you love?" stuff that initially seemed like nonsense to me.

I can deal with the Alaskan goo. I just don't want to start seeing clowns in sewer drains or a Walkin Dude with rundown boot heels!

I just finished this story last night. I am only this far into Skeleton Crew, but so far this is my favourite. I just got such a great picture as to what this would be like when I read it. The only thing I can't figure out is why Roger didn't try to escape when it got LaVerne? He thought about it when Deke was consumed, why not when she got eaten?
