The kind of man Roland is.

I read and finished the Dark Tower series going on two years ago now. While I will most likely comment on each of the novels over the next few weeks/months, what struck me, nay, what drew me into the story was the scene in which the entire township was bearing down on Roland and the child stuck the knife into Roland's leg, he turned and blew the child's face off. I immediately thought, 'now here is a bad ass mother ****er' and I need to know more about him.

From there it became a hazy blackout period in my life where the only detail which stands out are the Dark Tower novels. I cannot remember what went on in my life until after I finished all of the books. At that time, life continued, but a little piece of my soul stays with Roland, a hope that he will eventually find peace in his journeys, say true.

Roland is tha man!!! With his selfish flaws ofcourse, not for killing the kid, but the whole journey.

I think part of the appeal of the character is he's not a perfect, flawless hero-type. Makes him more believable, if not always likeable.

Roland is by far my favorite character ever to spring forth from the imagination of Stephen King. And I especially liked him from the book, The Gunslinger, especially after Alice was held hostage by the townspeople, and rather than try to reason with them, he shoots her himself.

I agree with everything you say about reading the DT series, it's like losing a big chunk of your mind and you get to the point were your like 'what just happened?' and all sad that it's over.

I must admit(as mean as this sounds) that I burst out laughing at the part were Roland blew the kid's face off. You are right about how he is one 'bad ass mother ****er'
He would make Clint Eastwood, with his steely-eyed gaze, wet himself and run home crying for mom. Roland is definitly the best character from anybook I have read.
