Just finished reading Skeleton Crew and enjoyed it immensely. My daughter picked it up and loaned it to me. Really enjoyed The Mist, much better than the movie, natch! I also recognized the Raft as seeing it as a movie, can't recall whether it was a made-for-TV movie and what the title was ... anyone know that?

I'm thinking it might have been in one of the Tales From The Darkside movies?

Oooh, thanks for reminding me of that show! I used to watch it faithfully. Loved it! Too bad it's no longer on. There was another one that was on near it, same channel, I believe, I think it was called Monsters? Both my daughter and I watched both.

I think The Raft was in the book Skelton Crew and the movie in Creepshow 2, which had a different ending.

My previous "quick reply" didn't take so ... I'm reposting.
Oooh, thanks for reminding me of that show! I used to watch that all the time. There was another, I think it was called "Monsters" that came on right before or after. Both my daughter and I loved those shows! Too bad they're not on anymore (and nothing like them since).

My first Stephen King book to read... I was 12-13 years old back then and they were creepy stories but I loved them. What bothered me was the stories never really ended, always an open door at the end, I had to figure out what comes next.
I don't mind it any more of course :)) It's doubles the mystery.

I'm currently in the middle of reading Skeleton Crew (just finished Nona and starting For Owen) and loving it, like I love pretty much all SK books. My favorite, by far, was Mrs. Todd's Shortcut. SK really knows how to tap into a woman's psyche and I am most definitely Mrs. Todd behind the wheel of my little go-devil. ; ) The story made me think of Boo'ya Moon in Lisey's Story and now that I think of it, the trunk of the Buick 8.
Bool! The end.

A fantastic and compelling read all round.
Highlights for me were: The Mist, Mrs. Todd's..., The Reach and The Ballad of the Flexible Bullet.
As long as King keeps writing short stories of this magnitude, the art will never die

It's my fav. short story book next to "Night Shift" , I mean come on just "The Mist" alone is worth the read . I had the one with the monkey on the front , something about those monkeys with the cymbals are creepy .

I enjoy the short stories but find myself more into the novels. I like longer reads best.
