i want a movie made about the book. i've got so many ideas for the movie and i can't stop thinking about it. i got one idea where the Pulse came from. also what happens when the speaker is on (i mean speakerphone), does the people walking close enough to hear it "blank out" (what i call when they hear it, the Pulse). And my bro and i do agree about the ending, but it gives you the chance to fill in what happen to Johnny-Gee, make up your own mind about him, it can all be left the GREAT KING. Alice was also heart-breaking i think Clay should have found them and crucfy them for her. i got my bro to read it (he bought it, lucky him and me) and we want a movie, if there is not one already, or one in the making.

There were plans for a movie to be directed by Eli Roth but they seem to have fallen through. I don't have any recent updates for a production.

Eli Roth would've been a great name to attach to this film!

According to a post at Fangoria's web site, John Harrison (Clive Barker's Book of Blood) is writing a four-hour miniseries adaptation of Cell for the Weinstein Company. No TV network is yet attached, though.

The post says: "Harrison considers CELL one of King’s best recent books, with opening chapters that will make an incredible first 30 minutes on screen. The filmmaker adds that he doesn’t see this as a zombie story so much as a VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED-esque chiller, and enjoys the fact that the infected populace possesses a hive mentality."

Except his plan for the movie would have ruined it. I'm glad he dropped out of it. I'm not sure what book he read, but he thought the Phone Crazies were zombies. They are not zombies!

I do still hope it becomes a movie, and if and when it happens, I hope they make it right.

There have been a few topics on here concerning this novel becoming a movie. I agreed with most who said that they would like to see this on the big screen and my view has not changed.

Eli Roth was set to write the screenplay and direct, but recently backed out saying he wanted to write his own stuff.

Darren Aronofsky would be better.

What about John Carpenter? I hear John Carpenter and Stephen King are friends. Good screenplay would be difficult.

I think Eli Roth would have been a mistake. While Cell is intense and violent I think Roth would have been too heavy handed with the Hamburger Factor. If Cabin Fever is any indication. Personally I think the man is overrated and King's books do better when a more restrained director is at the helm. I like Frank Darabont. I've also suggested that they go with an unknown director, but now I'm thinking the movie adaptation won't happen at all.

I agree Eli Roth would be a huge mistake, I agree with Robster, John Carpenter would b perfect for this film, my main concern is that it should stick to the story as much as possible instead of turning into some zombie B movie which would easierly happen.

Same here. But I do think a few things will have to be changed, such as the pacing in the middle. I also hope they make it make more sense than the novel, lol. The explanation had me all :wow:

I primarily write novels now, but I feel that I could write a decent screenplay for this book if given the shot!:eyebrow:

I loved Cell...read it when it was first released in paperback after having a bit of a breather from SK for a couple of years. It hooked me straight back in and made me ask myself why I had left it so long between visits into Stephen's world.
I would love to see a film adaptation of this as well, however one thing that concerns me is that people will be saying "that's just a rip-off of 'I Am Legend' " (thought that was a great movie BTW!) Even though the two stories are different I think people will not be able to see past similarities of rage virus, end of mankind, takes place in large American city. Frank Darabont is your man for this one :smile2:

Well,

For the record, I'd love to see this one as DePalma's return to the Horror genre. Hasn't that been hinted at before, on the imdbpro.com? Of all of them, I think that's a director who is ready for a big, sweeping (yet very personal, creepish and intimate) production like CELL. Probably just me though, eh?

Okay,
Bobbo

I picture McG..the guy who did Terminator Salvation, We Are Marshal, and Charlie's Angle's..to direct a film version of Cell. He's got the talent to make visually instense action scenes as well as non-intense, like We are Marshal.

While I'd love to Cell as a movie at the same time I wouldn't. They never seem to be quite right, films based on books I mean. Especially many King adaptations.
Cell is my absolute favourite King book, I'm not sure why, and I'd hate to see it ruined!

I heard a rumor that SK has written the screenplay for Cell. If that's true, that's awesome. As I've posted before, I'm glad eli roth isn't going to do it because he's not that great a filmmaker (he's a lousy actor too).

Yeah, I like Cabin Fever, but as soon as I heard Roth talking about his plans for the movie it kind of ruined it for me (eg, showing the apocalypse on a world wide scale rather than just one man's perspective). That was kind of a lot of the the unique charm of it to me honestly - how the whole story was just one man's journey.

He has officially left the project though. Maybe as the Weinsteins had the same thougts as I did about the opener... :)

There is rumours of it being adapted for a miniseries, which I'd go for.
