According to Wiki and IMDB Mick garris is currenlty in pre-production on the film adaption of Bag of bones. I know, I know, Alot of poeple dont really like Garris' adaptions of kings work. SK must like them though becuase he keeps letting him make them. Im sure almost any adaption of Kings work will be reagrded well by fans, especially a huge favorite like bag of bones. There isnt really too much to mess up here as the story is pretty linear. Thoughts?

But there are some incredibly hard scenes in there, a bit too harsh for the mainstream Hollywood-style movie productions. I'm guessing they're going to soften it up a bit to fit the general public. A pity, but let's face it - money makes the world go around.

Hi,

I think Mick Garris makes 'worthy' if unexciting adaptations.

I'd much rather see it in the hands of Frank Darabont (but then I think that about ALL Sai King adaptations).

Long days and pleasant nights

Wouldn't necessarily be SK liking the Garris adaptations, but someone in the studio that bought the option(s) clearly thinks they're more than acceptable!
It'll be interesting to see what sort of a job they make of it.

It's funny, immediately after I finished the book a while back, I was wondering if it will ever be made into a movie. And...here we go. Haha. I just hope he treats the story with love and respect.

...but 2011? That feels ages away. :oo:

Hopefully it won't be a complete screw up like Dreamcatcher. That movie sucked, especially the "New" ending to it.

for the fun of it.

Casting Ideas

Mike- Robert Downey Jr or John Cusak
Jo- Rachel Weitz
Mattie- Natalie Portman
Ki- No idea don't know of any actresses that young
John Storrow- Toby Maguire
Max Devore- Martin Landau or Frank Langella
Rogette- Hellen Mirren
Sara Tidwell- Kerry Washington

I know it's an unrealistic cast considering the budget but oh well

P.S.
And of course

Director- Frank Durabont........*sigh*.... one can dream, can't he?

Directed: Sleepwalkers, The Stand, Tales From the Crypt (compilation of a few kings), The Shining, Riding the Bullet, desperation, and of course Bag of Bones. He's also doing From a Buick 8 i believe.

I would love to see this made into a movie.

I don't think they would be able to break my heart near as badly as Mr. King did. He's getting pretty good at that. He does it at least 4 or 5 times in every book.

...I'm nervous, lol. I just want it to turn out great. I would be more confident with Frank Darabont, but I guess I'll just have to live with the fact that he's not directing it.

we can hope that this adaptation will be good.....Its been about 10 years since we got a decent SK movie...yes thats right boo to dreamcather, secret window, and the mist(although I did kinda like the mist)...In my opinio bag of bones is far better then any of those three. Please SK dont let turn bag of bones into another maximum overdrive

Lol. I dunno, I loved The Mist and 1408.

But Bag of Bones will have to be dealt with much care.

Frank Durabont would be a great director. I love his other adaptions of King's work. I think that John Cusack would make a good Mike.:wink2:

Also worth noting that Guillermo Del Toro is producing it. I'll see pretty much anything with that guys name on it.

Tobe Hooper is directing "From A Buick 8"....should be good. He wrote the screenplay for "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (2003) and directed "Poltergeist".

So let me get this striaght.... you mention that he wrote the screenplay for the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre(which he didn't) but leave out that he wrote and directed the landmark 1973 film upon which it was based. :eyebrow:

I loved Bag of Bones. I hope they get a stellar cast. It is now 2010 so by next year they should be making the movie right? I would like to see the movie. I hope they treat the adaptation with care but then again it's Hollywood we're talking about here. They might change a few parts and make their own interpretation of things. Kerry Washington will make a good Sara. Matthew Perry will make a good Mike. John Cusack, no way. He was good in 1408 though.

Last I'd heard (a couple of months ago), they were trying to work out a deal with one of the networks for a mini-series and planning to film in Alaska.

I thought Dreamcatcher was a pretty good version of the book, of course none of Kings Books can truly be interpreted the way the mind can when reading.

You are so right. No movie can ever equal what your imagination does when you read a book. After all, it's a movie custom tailored to you!!:biggrin2:

Like Ms. Mod I have also been told (by IMDB) that it is now going to be a TV mini series, It will work, but it would have been cool to see it on the big screen too :) ... btw love the idea of Matthew Perry in the cast, he deserves something great since his last good thing (Friends obviously haha)

I really hate TV mini series. It is like one "to be continued" episode after another. I appreciate that it allows for much more of the story to be told, which is great, but even if you wait and buy the DVD, it makes it so choppy. Not to mention the ad's. But who am I kidding, I will watch it happily anyway (but probably will wait for the DVD, my girlfriend won't watch horror:down:.)
