I really, really hope Steven Spielberg does right by Mr. King and puts together a brilliant Talisman movie. Anyone have any ideas about casting for it? It appears most folks favor Morgan Freeman for Speedy. I think Spielberg needs to discover a new kid for Jack, sort of like him finding the kid who played Short Round in Temple of Doom. Ideas, anyone?

Elizabeth Mitchell for Lily Cavanaugh.

Hi again,

Based on the new Talisman character ilustrations, Dominic Purcel could interpret Phil Sawyer.

Have you watched the demo that a young director put out on Youtube to try to jar Spielberg out of sitting on the film rights? Its just the first hotel scene but its quite good.

I had no idea anyone was even considering a movie! How exciting!! I agree that whoever the boy is, that he should be unknown. I don't want to connect him to any other movie or plot line while watching the movie.

Since Jack was the major character, and such a wonderful one, it will be a major point to cast the role. I can't think of any of the current child actors who would fit my idea of him (I picture someone along the line of Brad Renfro in the movie The Client) so I think it would be best if they went with an unkown newcomer.
The same goes for Wolf.
Morgan Freeman would be a great choice for Speedy.
No idea for Lily Cavanaugh, Michelle Pfeiffer, maybe?
As for Sunlight Gardener/Osmond, I wouldn't have thought of it myself but on some board someone suggested Kiefer Sutherland and as I came to think of it, I think it might work really well (not to mention that Kiefer is a great actor).
To Felipe, who suggested Dominic Purcell for Phil Sawyer, please please NOOOOO!!!!!!
For Morgan, I have no one particular in mind.

For Jack: The baby from the eTrade commercials. He should be the right age by the time a movie actually becomes a reality. :biggrin2:

Drops to the floor and has mild heart attack! If they make this into a movie I'm buying my tickets in advance lol. I can't think of anyone off hand but I'll think on it. As matter of fact I think I'm going to dig up my copy and re-read it. The Talisman and Black House are two of my favorite SK books. It also got me into Peter Straub's work. Can't wait!!!

Why, thank you!

Yes, the B-movie star idea is a good one!
I picture Lily Cavanaugh as a blonde, tough like Miss Kitty in Gunsmoke, and great comedic timing. She has some good lines in the book, sort of like a pre-cursor to Henry Leyden, but with the feminine side of cool going for her.

I'll have to go dig for some ideas now. :)

i wonder...do we still have any glam b-movie actresses who are either still alive or not falling apart from drugs? b-movies are dying out now, as a fashion, aren't they? like there are still plenty of them but...maybe it's just that it's hard to spot the cool ones while you're still in the same generation as them. hm.

Gene Wilder would make an amazing Sunlight Gardner, though he's a bit ancient these days... Johnny Depp might do him justice, but then he only seems to take starring roles

actually gene wilder could be good for it because personally i've always found him a bit creepy.
